  • Stephen Kenn Military Canvas Sofa - Canvas & Marbled Brown Finish
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. Composed of a steel welded frame with a marbled brown finish, custom webbing belts, smooth leather straps and re-purposed WWII military fabric for the cushion covers. Each piece is unique, and carries small imperfections, hand-repaired tears, and markings from the soldiers who originally used the material. The shade of olive canvas will vary from piece to piece.

  • Oscar 3 Seat Sofa by Matthew Hilton
    shophorne.com
The Oscar sofa strikes a pleasing balance between modernity and tradition, large in size yet light in appearance. The sofa is made from a European hardwood frame, jute webbing and hessian straps and then covered with a mix of materials that includes natural fibers, animal hair and wool. It features two large feather cushions that are notable for their depth, the back has a line of sewn in pulls, lending the sofa the appearance of a buttoned back, without the actual buttons. The feet are made from walnut stained beech, with the front ones being turned versions. By contrasting long straight lines with delicate natural curves, Mathew Hilton has created a piece that is both reserved and full of humility. The Oscar armchair is a piece perfect for those who like their modernity laced with a little familiarity. Made in the UK. Couch is shown here in dark grey Molly 170, Wool. • Normann Copenhagen Onkel 2-Seater Sofa
    shophorne.com
Onkel (the Danish word for Uncle) is a sofa that combines the simplicity of modern forms with the soft curves of the olden days. The outer shell of the sofa has a firm expression, while the cushions are comfortable and inviting. The choice of materials adds a sensuous side with its characteristically Nordic connotations. The Onkel sofa consists of a simple, upholstered frame with cushions. The inspiration for the cushions derives from the more bombastic upholstered sofas typical of the pre-1950s era. To emphasize the merger of two completely different worlds of expression, the back cushion has been elegantly encapsulated by the frame. The materials in Onkel create a dynamic effect with its plain-colored frame, mottled back and cushion and color-lacquered under frame. All in the same color shade. This is what makes Onkel stand as a complete unit. Simon Legald explains: “As a designer, I am curious about how the materials work together with the idea. Onkel is a sofa that was derived of a dialog between craftsmanship and industry. In creating Onkel, I have revived old craftsmanship techniques and used them in a new context. In doing this, the details add character to Onkel.” Onkel is a recognizable Scandinavian design and is available in three colors both as a two or three-seater sofa upholstered with fabrics from Gabriel.

  • Flemming Busk Twilight Sleeper Sofa
    dwr.com
Winner of a furniture competition at the Århus School of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, Flemming Busk’s Twilight Sleep Sofa distills the concept of a convertible couch to a simple cylinder and rectangle. A compact and nicely scaled sofa, the bolster pillow adjusts to three different positions for customized seat depths (19.5"/23"/34.75") and lumbar support. The Twilight offers further options by converting into a daybed, queen-size bed or two twin beds. To transform Twilight into a comfortable sleeping space for two, simply move the bolster out of the way and place the top cushion on the floor. The two mattresses, when pushed together are larger than a queen-size bed, but not quite as large as a king. For sheets, use two twin extra-long fitted sheets with coordinating flat sheets or one king-size flat sheet. A great small space solution, Twilight turns any room into a guest room. The slipcover is removable for cleaning and is welted at the seams with contrast piping for a clean aesthetic. Casters on the rear legs make for easy mobility. Made in Denmark.
