This was a usual day for the Doctor. Running, more running, strange creepy places, strange creepy little girls with creepy teddy bears, strange monster that apparently has something to do with little girl… yep. Completely and totally normal.
Oh, and what made it even more normal was when Sherlock Holmes entered. “Ah, Sherlock! It is a pleasure to meet you!” The Doctor grinned, holding out a hand. Sherlock simply looked at his hand for a second, as if contemplating to touch the hand of such a strange man. He didn’t. “Yes, Doctor… what is your name anyway?”
“The Doctor.” The Doctor simply grinned.
“Well, Doctor,” Sherlock growled, shrugging his coat further up his shoulders. “I’d like to hear your ideas on this.”
“Let me get this straight, okay?” Amy’s voice broke through, the red –head herself looking rather confused. “But we come to this creepy house of this creepy little girl, and the high and almighty Sherlock Holmes walks in?”
“People can surprise you, Amy,” The Doctor stated bluntly, spinning on his heels. Whipping his screwdriver out, he quickly scanned Sherlock, just to double check. Positively pleased with his answer, he turned back to Amy. “He’s definitely the real one.”
The small, helpless little girl edged towards the Doctor, holding her bunny close.
“We’ve been waiting, Doctor. Waiting for you to save us.”
Bending down, the Doctor stared the girl in the eye. ‘You never interfere in the business of other peoples or planets, unless there’s children crying’, Amy had once said. It was true, the Doctor was partial to children, but this one… it wasn’t quite the same.
“How do you exist?” The Doctor frowned, looking her up and down.
“We just do, Doctor.” The girl replied, staring at him blankly. “And you are going to save us.”
“Alright then!” The Doctor cheered, straightening up. “The girl won’t give us anything. Any ideas?”
“Well, sometimes things just… happen.” Watson struggled out, looking around for help.
“You can’t honestly tell me you’re suggesting witchcraft, Watson.” Sherlock said incredulously, his coat billowing around him when he strode over.
“Well, after all I’ve seen here, I wouldn’t go past it.” Watson shrugged, turning to the Doctor. “And this guy! I’m sure he wouldn’t be surprised if we ran into witchcraft.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time…” The Doctor muttered, adjusting his bow tie.
“So, we’re in the middle of a village, with a creepy girl and the possibility of witchcraft?” Rory piped up, giving the Doctor a queer look.
“Well anything’s possible Rory! It could be witchcraft, a dream, someone’s imagination, a illusion, a lie…”
“So basically we’re nowhere.” Rory stated bluntly, looking at the Doctor.
“Well, if you want to look at it that way.”
“Save us, Doctor. Save us.” The little girl called, her voice reaching all corners of the room. The Doctor turned slowly.
“Well where are you?”
“Where you least expect us to be.” And with those words, the helpless little girl flickered out of existence.
