  • Knoll Wassily Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Marcel Breuer, 1925. Seamless chromed tubular steel, cowhide leather. Made in Italy by Knoll. Marcel Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus in 1925 when he conceived the first tubular steel chair, the Wassily chair, based on the tubed frame of a bicycle. Knoll is the only authorized and licensed manufacturer of the Wassily chair. Marcel Breuer's signature is stamped into the base of the frame and every chair has an individual identification number to verify authenticity. If it does not display the Knoll logo type and bear Marcel Breuer's signature, it is a counterfeit. Protégé of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer embodied many of the School's distinctive concepts and was and one of the School's most famous students. He returned to teach carpentry from 1925-1928, during which he designed the tubular-steel furniture collection. His attention drifted towards architecture, and after practicing privately, he worked as a professor at Harvard's School of Design under Gropius. Breuer was also honored as the first architect to be the sole artist of an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Wassily lounge frame is seamless tubular steel with a polished chrome finish. Thick cowhide leather upholstery available in black, light brown or white beige. • 20-oz. Santa Fe Chip and Dip
    cooking.com
The combination of warm wood and elegant metal looks attractive in any setting. Carved from durable, richly grained acacia wood, the 15-in. circular tray holds an abundance of tortilla chips, crackers, or bread rounds in its subtly curved channel. On the raised central platform sits a simple bowl ready for your favorite spread. Made of our own Nambé alloy with its superb thermal properties, this bowl can oven-heat a cheese dip to the bubbling point and keep it hot indefinitely. Or, freezer-chill the bowl before filling with guacamole or black bean salsa, adding coolness to lingering summer evenings on the patio. After the guests have gone, the wooden tray and metal bowl can be gently cleaned by hand. Nambé items made with wood may be washed by hand using a mild detergent and a soft cloth. Dry these products immediately with a soft cloth. As with all Nambé metal pieces, function stands beside beauty in purpose. The proprietary eight-metal aluminum-based alloy has the luster of silver and the solidity of iron. It can be preheated to 500 degrees or chilled in the freezer; this coupled with its superior temperature retention properties makes Nambé Alloy markedly useful for cooking and serving. Nambé Alloy does not contain silver or lead and therefore does not tarnish; it won't chip, crack, or break. Avoid using your Nambé Alloy with acidic foods, and never place it in the microwave or dishwasher. Hand wash your Nambé with mild detergent and water, then dry immediately with a soft clean cloth. An occasional application of Nambé Polish restores any gleam lost to time and use. Unique Characteristics: Nambé Alloy retains temperature for extended periods of time, so prior to use, you can chill or warm your Nambé Alloy pieces to hold food at a desired temperature. This thermal retention property makes Nambé Alloy perfect for cooking in the oven, under the broiler, or on the gas or electric stovetop. Each Nambé piece goes through a series of shaping, grinding, buffing, and polishing steps; slight imperfections found on Nambé's brilliant finish are characteristic of the sand casting process. Since Nambé is hand-crafted, no two pieces are exactly alike. Frequent use will result in a natural patina; many Nambé aficionados appreciate and encourage this patina, however luster can be restored by applying a small amount of Nambé Polish with a soft cloth. Do not place items made with wood in the dishwasher and do not leave wood in standing water for extended periods of time. Nourish wood surfaces with mineral oil applied with a #0000 grade super fine steel wool or a soft cloth; let stand for one hour, wash away excess with a mild detergent and soft cloth, then dry immediately with a soft cloth. Cleaning & Care: Handwash. Dimensions: 15x15x5-in. Fine: 1. Material: Wood tray, Nambe metal bowl. Origin: United States. Size/Capacity: 20-oz.

  • Knoll International Knoll - Wassily Chair
    connox.com
Already admired by teachers, students and visitors of the Dessau Bauhaus, where it stood in a few houses of the “master town”. And already in 1926, the production beginning year, it was honored as “masterpiece” in the exposition of the Dresden arts hall. The first steel rod lounger B 3 from Marcel Breuer – later known as “Club Lounger” or “Wassily” – soon reached publicity and was part of the interests to the Bauhaus. Finally it should cause a worldwide boom for steel rod furniture that stood for avant-gardism and the break of industrial aesthetics into privacy. With the also new black-silver contrasts which also remind of valuable jewelry and modern machines, he created “magic of precision”, as a French critic wrote. Breuer saw “apparatus of today’s life” in his furniture. They should be weightless, open, affordable, demountable and hygienic. B 3, which has also been available as folding furniture and which has been built by Breuer in his leisure time together with a locksmith, fulfilled these criteria. Therewith he connected to designs of Gerrit Rietveld among others. Breuer didn’t create an everyday object with the Wassily Chair as he desired, but a new furniture type and an “abstract-real-sculpture” (Siegfried Geidion), in whose open geometry the minimalism of new form-finders is displayed. It became a real design icon, a central symbol of modern times and not for nothing the first furniture piece that became a classic in the 60es. By the way: numerous myths are told around the name giving of the Wassily chair. Some say that it got its name because Wassily Kandinsky was the roommate of Marcel Breuer in the Bauhaus. Others say it only has the name because the chair was a design for Wassily Kandisky’s apartment at the Bauhaus in Dessau. More details: Characteristics: A classic KnollStudio Design; produced after the original design of Breuer. The KnollStudio logo and the signature of Marcel Breuer are imprinted in the lower frame of the chair. Construction: Seamless formed round tube steel, high gloss chromed. Leather straps out of Cowhide leather, Spinneybeck Belting leather and Haired Hide. For usage on hard grounds, the skids are equipped with plastic slides. Surface: The upholstery in Cowhide leather is available in black, light brown and natural white. The upholstery in Spinneybeck Belting leather is available in a wide colours selection.
