  • Mater Shell Lounge Chair - Brown Saddle Leather, Soaped Oak
    shophorne.com
The Shell Chair is developed out of Michael Dreebens ongoing interest in traditional craft practices in North India - in this case saddle making. Exquisitely made saddles have been produced in India for centuries, and although some horse culture persists, it's waning as India becomes more technologically developed. The Shell Chairs attempt to incentivize this skilled trade by providing these artisans with a new market for their craft, and hopefully encouraging them to pass it on to younger generations. The shape of the chair is an homage to Scandinavian design of the mid-twentieth century and embraces some of its core values: it's clean of line and is intended to emphasize the leather forming and stitching, it's deeply comfortable, and it's durable – like the saddles it's derived from, it's crafted from thick, top-grain leather, and with reasonable care, will last for decades. Frame: Soaped Oak. Leather: Premium brown saddle leather

  • Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Barcelona® Chair
    dwr.com
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair and Stool (1929), originally created to furnish his German Pavilion at the International Exhibition in Barcelona, have come to epitomize modern design. Mies van der Rohe designed the chair to serve as seating for the king and queen of Spain, while the stool was intended to accommodate their attendants. Still produced to his original specifications, this Barcelona is of quality fit for royalty. The cushions – welting and buttons included – come from a single Spinneybeck® or Edelman Leather cowhide and are supported by cowhide belting straps, dyed to match the color of the chair. To create the deep, precise tufting, individual panels of leather are cut, hand welted and hand tufted. The chromed-steel frame is hand buffed to mirror-like perfection. The Barcelona Chair was honored with the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977. The Barcelona Chair is a registered trademark of Knoll®, Inc., manufactured by Knoll; according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A. • Finn Juhl Baker Sofa in Fabric A

The Baker Sofa was created in 1951, the year that Juhl brought international recognition to Danish design with his U.S. debut in the "Good Design" exhibit in Chicago and at MoMA in New York. This was also the year when he was the architect appointed to represent Denmark in creating the interior of a meeting hall at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Oh, and did we mention he had just turned 39? In looking at his Baker Sofa, we can see how Juhl was influenced by modern sculpture, like the moving mobiles created by Alexander Calder. Another recognizable Juhl characteristic is how one element appears suspended over another, with a space in between. In doing this with the back of this sofa, he gave the Baker a surprising visual lightness for a sofa of this size. (Imagine how different it would look as one solid piece.) This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™. Made in Denmark.
  • Artek Domus Chair - Oak
    shophorne.com
Ilimari Tapiovaara was committed to designing furniture for a much broader market. His goal was to produce quality inexpensive furniture that was made from materials that were readily available in 1940's Finland; one result is the Domus Chair. The chair was given clean simple lines that spoke to style and functionality. The Domus Chair is a multipurpose chair that is perfect as a standalone chair, in a grouping or around a dinner table. The frame is made of laminated oak and the seat and back take their form from pressed oak plywood. The chair is finished with a clear lacquer and is also available with a variety of upholstered fabrics. The Domus Chair is stackable up to three high.
  • LC4 Chaise Longue – Chrome Frame/Canvas Fabric
    dwr.com
LC4 Chaise Longue (1928), dubbed the "relaxing machine," is a lounge that mirrors the body's natural curves while appearing to float above its supports. A tubular bow-shaped frame holds a bed of fabric atop a rectilinear steel base. The moveable frame adjusts along the base from upright to full recline with ease, anticipating later ergonomic furniture. The LC4 is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Each piece is signed and numbered and, as a product of Cassina's Masters Collection, is manufactured by Cassina in Italy under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation.
  • Jeffrey Bernett, Nicholas Dodziuk and Piotr Woronkowicz Parallel Tall Dresser
    dwr.com
Designer Jeffrey Bernett was being a bit cheeky with the name of his Parallel Bedroom Collection (2013), given that it features beds with headboards shaped more like trapezoids. However, we think the name still fits because this is indeed a collection without parallel when it comes to choices. You can equip your bed with a standard or extra-wide headboard, oak or walnut frame and fabric or leather upholstery, then opt for side tables and under-bed storage, as well as dressers tall and wide. Parallel is more than a bed – it’s a system for an entire room. Assembly required for beds. Made in U.S.A.
  • Florence Knoll Bassett Florence Knoll Two-Position Credenza
    dwr.com
Florence Knoll Bassett almost single-handedly defined the look of modern corporate interiors in the 1950s and '60s, as founder and director of the Knoll Planning Unit, the space-planning arm of Knoll® Associates. She looked at furniture design as just one aspect of her "total design" approach to interiors. "I did it because I needed a piece of furniture for a job and it wasn't there, so I designed it," she said. She wasn't the only one who needed the Florence Knoll Credenza (1961), though, as it has been in constant production since its introduction. The simple, refined design has a white Arabescato top (the same marble used on the Saarinen Pedestal Table) and ebonized oak wood. It is appropriate for a dining room, living room or office space. Made in Italy.
  • Normann Copenhagen Ding Table
    shophorne.com
Inspired by ancient three-dimensional wooden brain teaser puzzles, the German designers Ding3000 have created a simple coffee table that is assembled without the help of screws and tools. The table consists quite simply of three legs made from oak. When put together they constitute a sculptural knot that works as the base for an exclusive glass table top. When Ding3000 purchased the puzzles they immediately began to experiment and play with the shape and the puzzle's basic principle: three pieces of wood join together and lock themselves in a seemingly inseparable knot. During the process, it dawned on them that the form would make a perfect base for a table top. The legs are rounded off with chamfered edges, making the table stand sturdily on the floor and the round sheet of glass sit solidly on the base. The three legs seem to pierce through each other in an impossible way, and our intention is to draw attention to this almost magical detail. That is also why we have chosen a transparent top, so the table's key focus point is the joining of the legs. The Ding table is available with either a clear or smoked glass table top, and with a choice of three different types of legs, there is ample opportunity to find exactly the style that suits your furnishings and taste. For example, you can combine a clear glass table top with legs in natural for a clean and Nordic expression, or turn up the intensity with a smoked table top in bold coral-colored or striking black legs.

Whether working with the designers at Herman Miller or his Manhattan studio team, George Nelson knew how to bring out the best in people by encouraging them to experiment and play. George Mulhauser arrived fresh from Pratt with a portfolio filled with sketches, one of which evolved into the Coconut Chair (1955) under Nelson’s tutelage. Named for its shell-fragment shape that invites lounging in a variety of positions, Coconut is clever in how it integrates seat, back and arms into one simple form. This is the authentic Coconut Chair by Herman Miller. Nelson is a trademark of Herman Miller, Inc. Made in Germany.
