Hey girls! I’m your new reviewer :) My name's Bristina, @petitgateaux I am the beauty/fashion editor at @crystal-waves too if you want to see some of my tips :) I am 16 years old and I have a long 6 months until my next birthday ;’( I am a junior and I work at a daycare provided through the school district--but I have Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday’s off. Anyway, I’ll probably post on Wednesday and Sunday so look for me then! If you have any other questions about me feel free to ask but I am going to just jump into this review of Schick’s new Intuition razor in Pure Nourishment.
Here’s some information I found on it from it’s description on drugstore.com:
“The Schick® intuition pure nourishment razor with coconut milk and almond oil is the first and only razor system that lathers and shaves in one easy step, leaving your skin smooth and noticeably softer.
A pivoting head with four blades provides greater flexibility and allows you to follow the natural curves of your legs and body. For a closer, faster shave that results in hydrated skin, the skin moisturizing solid surrounding the razor eliminates the need for shave gel, soap, or body wash.
The razor's ergonomic design offers a sure grip with a sleek, molded handle for comfort and flexibility. This formula includes coconut milk and almond oil, which softens and moisturizes skin. Schick intuition plus is the effortless way to lather, shave and moisturize in one easy step giving you more time for simple pleasures.”
So, an overview: The razor contains a lathering soap solid around the blades, the solid contains coconut milk and almond oil--which are both known to moisturize skin. It claims to be made so that you don’t need to use shaving cream or gel or anything like that, and may even eliminate the need for moisturizer as well. So basically it is being depicted as great for busy people as well as those with dry skin.
Is it true?
Here’s what I think.
What I’m going to do is go through all of it’s claims and tell you if that’s what it did for me or not, and then I’ll just go over some pros and cons that I noticed at the end.
Schick Intuition Pure Nourishment Razor claims to eliminate the need for some steps that you might usually use when you shave--mainly, applying shave cream. The “moisturizing solid” is supposed to give you enough lather so that you don’t need shaving cream.
So I tried it out without shaving cream. And I was so thankful that I didn’t end up with razor burn or a bajillion nicks. It worked out really well, actually. I could tell the solid was getting onto my skin nicely and it provided enough lax of friction to provide for a comfortable shave. This really did save me time--since I shave my entire leg, I need to apply a lot of shaving cream all over so it saved me at least three minutes--maybe even more if you account for cleaning up and if I needed to shave an area twice (for a closer shave--I do that sometimes when I have time and I want to impress). So YAY for time saver.
HOWEVER. Not using shaving cream got rid of the guideline most people use when they shave. Most people use the creamed places as an indication that they haven’t shaved there yet. So I did actually miss a strip or two of skin after shaving with this my first time. After using it a bit I got better at shaving everywhere so it’s not that bad but I would not recommend this to shaving newbies.
This razor’s solid contains coconut milk and almond oil--which are both really known for their moisturizing qualities. And I felt that both of these ingredients worked well for me--the solid worked well. I usually will get drier legs after being at the pool for awhile--the sun sometimes wrecks havoc on my paler skin and the chlorine doesn’t really help--but shaving with this really helped--it gave me lasting moisture and my legs felt really smooth because of this.
I did still follow up with moisturizer every time I used it except for that first time just because I just really like the relaxation I get when lotioning up--and my lotion contains SPF. But even without it I still got the results I talked about above.
With four blades, this product claims to give you a very close shave. But I must confess, I didn’t get as close of a shave as I usually might with my Venus disposable razors. However, that was only with those last shaves I got out of the razor before I switched the blade. Still though, the close shaving didn’t last as long as I usually would get.
I don’t usually go for razors with a lot of blades because I get sensitive skin sometimes but this didn’t really irritate me, which is good. I don’t know if it was because of how the blades were shaped or if it was just the solid but I didn’t get razor burn nor did I come out of the shower itching my legs like crazy.
So, here are the pros and cons
>smells so good, it’s subtle and coconuty--just like a scent you might affiliate with the beach :)
>close shave without the irritating after effects
>solid works well as a shaving cream alternative
>really nice for a quick touch up or a rushed shave
>comes with a cover--which is great for someone like me who shares a shower with her family and is a bit anxious when it comes to bacteria
>blades dull a bit quicker than some blades (easily fixed by replacing blades though)
>solid does wear away, but that can be a good indication of when you need to change your blades--even though it might be annoying
>bulky (not good for limited space or when traveling)
I WOULD RECOMMEND THiS TOO:
busy girls who want to save time
girls who are experienced with shaving their legs (no newbies)
girls with thinner leg hair or wax and shave between waxings
girls with dry skin
