While my mother was alive, she read. She read and read and read. There wasn't a time in my life that she wasn't carrying a book, buying a book from the used book store in town, grabbing a stack of books from the library, or sitting in her favorite chair with a book in front of her. She mostly loved to read murder mysteries or historical romances, but she would read anything. She was the first person to tell me about the sin that was book censorship. To her, the idea of limiting a persons' access to ideas was the worst things. I was one of the only kids I knew (back in the late 1960s) who had a full encyclopedia collection, and even back when I was a kid people jokingly called me "The Professor" because, like my mother, I love to read. That is her greatest gift to me.
