From Shakespeare's Play, "The Merchant of Venice". Shylock, a money lender (a profession generally disliked by most) & rejected by the community with whom he does business because of his demeanor and religion, is a complex man whom the author paints as an unlikable and despised character, yet the audience is able to sense the root of his anger and revenge. There are many famous quotes from this play, the following, by Shylock, one of the most well known: 

"If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?". - ( Quote Act III, scene I).
