It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. True design is timeless. It survives all trends. Without aging. Take Oyster for instance. Modern, exciting, smart, respectable, comfortable. One of the first designs in the Classic Collection and 'the easy' chair of the sixties. The chromed metal base is so minimalist that the seating shell seems to float. All over the world, this chair decorated, and still decorates, the living areas of Artifort fans with a feeling for style. The Oyster was in the Artifort collection until 1979 and by request, it was brought back into the collection in 1999. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. Design Pierre Paulin, 1965. Upholstery, polished swivel base, chrome. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the simple Tulip spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time. The Tulip is stately with a high back, which is an eminently comfortable armchair. With its matching footstool, it makes a strong and yet exceptionally comfortable combination. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. He also designed home appliances. Restored to its place of honor - the Tulip chair has been reintroduced with its original cross-base. Having once fallen from favor due to the arrival of the swivelling disk base, it can now be admired in all its original glory. The polished stainless steel metal-strip cross-base looks lighter and airier than the disk and gives the Tulip an elegant twist. Ottoman: 26.75" w | 18.5" d | 18" h.

  • Daisy Coffee Table By Manulution
    2modern.com
The inspiration for this product was found in nature and turned into an abstract form through design. Daisy is an attempt in re-birth of handcrafts and an awakening of interest in modern, hand-made products. It is not a coincidence that this piece was designed for Rukotvorine (Manulution's parent company), which in Bosnia symbolizes the tradition of woodcarving and local heirloom furniture. A beautiful, flower shaped table top features hand-carved edges and hand-carved flowers. The Daisy Coffee Table is made in sustainably harvested wood and finished using eco-friendly Danish oil. This table is a part of the Daisy Collection, which also includes: Daisy Chair , Daisy Dining Table and Daisy Side Table. Manulution buys walnut and cherry logs from private orchards throughout Bosnia. These are trunks of old trees, which are cut when their productive life of fruit bearing is over and need to be replaced by new ones. They are bought directly from villagers, often in very small quantities, whenever it is offered. Other hardwoods (i.e. maple, oak, elm, and ash) are sourced from public forestry companies, the management of which has vastly improved in recent years. The forest certification process has started and several forests are FSC certified. There is also concrete evidence that forests are exploited sustainably. A recent forestry inventory (financed and supported by the World Bank) has shown that Bosnia's forest volume has increased significantly since the last inventory was conducted in 1960s. In fact, the study indicated that Bosnia, ostensibly, has more trees per capita than any country in Europe or Central Asia.
