I'll Be There For You // The Rembrandts (F.r.i.e.n.d.s theme song)

♔ Saturday, January 19: It's riff-off night at Alexander Hall! For now we'll just compete against each other (Teams: Annika, Ehuang & Isla; check the collection: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/collection?id=2181440 to find out which one is your team!). The theme for tonight is TV theme songs! Make sure not to repeat a song from your partners/opponents or your team will be disqualified. The song must have lyrics (no instrumental songs).

Rules: 1. Pick a song and make a set based on that song. 2. Write a short story of what your character did at the riff-off: Did she sing or did she watch from the sidelines? 3. The team that participates the most will win. 4. Collabs are encouraged!

Comment or PM me for inclusion or a collab ^^
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still nervous halfway through the riff-off. That said, it wasn't because of the actual riff-off itself.

Every few minutes someone would make a tiny flub, and I would be treated to a lovely imaginative flash that featured myself and my group being booed and catcalled when we failed to match a lyric correctly.

So when a rendition of the theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire finished and silence fell, I froze; total deer in the headlights.

"Anyone?" Annika asked, hands held up hopefully. "Come on ladies, no need to be scared."

I bit my lip. What if the lyrics didn't match? But then again, what if nobody stepped up and we lost anyway?

"'Scuse me," I mumbled, touching the shoulders of the girls in front of me as I squeezed past.

I didn't regret my movement immediately. At least, not until I noticed all the expectant eyes on me. I shivered and instinctively pulled my parka tighter around my back.

"Kiera?" Annika asked, and I turned, giving her a weak approximation of a smile as I mouthed "friends".

Some of the girls looked nonplussed and I made a 'you'll understand in a minute' gesture with my hand as I turned.

"I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you 'cause you're there for me too."

Someone picked up the drum line and then the guitar line. I relaxed and continued.

"You're still in bed at ten and work began at eight.
You've burned your breakfast so far things are going great.
Your mother warned you there'd be days like these, but she didn't tell you when the world
has brought you down to your knees,

That I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you, 'cause you're there for me too.

It's like you're always stuck in second gear,
when it hasn't been your day, your week
your month, or even your year.

I'll be there for you when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you, like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you 'cause you're there for me too."

When I stopped, I braced myself for laughter, maybe even booing.

None came. Just applause and hoots of amusement from the groups of people looking on.

I couldn't help but grin as I gave into the rush of adrenaline and bowed.
