(I'm sorry for doing two events, its very long so I've split it in half and the second set should be up tomorrow! Yay!)
SECOND EVENT (PART ONE):
-French aural exam. Students are lined up on isolated desks in the exam hall with headsets to listen to their French through. However, when the tape is played, a hideous scream comes from every headphone instead. A horrible, endless scream.-
Tilly's fingers tapped over the keyboard quickly and effortlessly. She squinted down at the scribbled notes she'd written over the last week and peered at the bullet points. 'Je n'aime pas les lundis' was scrawled across a line in scratchy flowing letters that didn't quite reach the top of the line but dipped too far under it.
She cleared her throat and straightened her back. "Jee num pa-lee loondis. L-loo, lun, lundy?" She groaned and flopped onto her desk knocking her colouring pencils to the floor, folding her arms in front and resting her head. She sniffed and watched her boots, stretching her toes beneath the leather and layer of knitted socks. She had knitted them herself.
As she watched the floor she noticed a movement out the corner of her eye. With another groan, Tilly lifted her head to see a folded pink piece of paper slip under the door. She sniffed and kicked off a boot, pushing her leg out and catching the note under her foot, wiggling it back towards her table and picking up the slip. As soon as she had it in her hand Tilly was taken back by the flowery perfume cloud seeping our of the paper and the amount of glitter pasted on it. A sticker on the back read 'From Miss Cassie Fisher' floating in the speech bubble of a happy, flowery unicorn. Swivelling her chair to face the other side of the room, Tilly reached the letter out to her roommate.
"I think this is for you," She said as Nelly Turner took it from her hand and turned it over.
"Cassie Fisher doesn't talk to me," She said, moving to hand back the note before she remembered how odd Tilly was, sitting in her chair with sparkly leggings and an oversized bow, patting a two-faced cat. "I'll open it." She pulled it back and broke the unicorn sticker to unfold the paper. "Dear "friends"- that was actually in quotation marks." Nelly indicated. "I get the feeling we'll be spending some time together trying to solve these mystery suicides- oh, no it is for you." She threw the letter back to her roommate and resumed study for their french exam, looking slightly disgruntled.
Tilly's brow creased as she picked the letter up off the floor and continued to read it.
'And since I don't like strangers much, I thought it might be good to get to know some of you.' Tilly felt her hopes rising a little. If Cassie Fisher wanted to be friends with her, she was more than willing to help speed up the process. 'You're invited to a small get together at my dorm-' Tilly skipped through reading the address, she knew where it was. 'Please come tonight after dinner, cupcakes and cider will be provided. Hope to see you later, Cassie Fisher x.' She wondered how she'd gotten the cider, but didn't really want to know the details.
Tilly heard some rustling on the other side of the room and looked up to see her roommate gathering her books and things. She glanced down at her watch and saw they had ten minutes before the oral exam started and felt her stomach knot as she began chewing her nails before gagging and spitting it out. She'd forgotten she'd painted them. She scooped up Joe Hardy, named after the Hardy Boys character despite being female, and popped her into a bag. She threw in her pencils next to the cat and grabbed her keys and purse, rushing out the door after Nelly Turner. Nelly quickly joined her friends from next door and they walked off together towards class, Tilly coming after them but remaining two meters behind, just as her roommate had asked her to.
As they went down the stairs with a mob of other students, Tilly caught sight of Edith Matthews, a girl she'd seen at Reed's suicide mystery meeting a few days ago, who Tilly remembered to be in the same French class. Maybe she would walk with her.
"Edith!" Tilly called out, trying to grab her attention. "Ediiiith," She reached out over some first year and tapped her shoulder. "Hi Edith," She greeted with a grin.
"I'm Eden," She said, looking iffy. "But hi Wires."
"Hi." Tilly repeated, smiling again. There was a small pause as she stood on the landing smiling with Edith looking awkward.
"Are you going to French?" Edith asked, gesturing vaguely towards the direction of their class. After Tilly nodded, the girl tried to look pleased. "Great. I'll walk with you."
/Well/. Tilly thought, /two new friends in one day/. Things really were looking up.
The two girls walked together mostly in silence, until Edith noticed her bag moving.
"Are those cats?" She asked, pointing at the bag.
"Yes, its from the Chat Noir restaurant in Paris."
"No, in the bag, do you have two cats in there?"
"Just one," Tilly said, pulling her out. "Her name is Frank Hardy, she has heterochromia, which means she has a green eye and a blue eye and a black splodge over one half of her head. I think it makes her look like Two-Face."
"What?" Edith stared at Frank, looking a little unsure.
"You know, Two-Face- the guy from Batman."
"I know who Two-Face is." The girl said, giving her a small smile. "She looks like a chimera." Tilly returned her smile and for the rest of the walk, it was a little less awkward.
They reached the class and joined the others, lining up outside the door with nervous mutterings in French and lots of giggles. Edith stood behind two blondes and began rocking back and forth on her heels.
"So," She began, looking around. "Are you going anywhere after dinner?"
"Yes! You got an invite to? Cassie slipped mine under the door. I'm really excited." Tilly gushed, grinning again.
"Well, I didn't get an invite, Cassie asked me when we passed in the hall." Edith said, looking at Tilly with a bit of sympathy, which she didn't unite understand. "She seems really… sweet."
One of the blondes in front turned around to face them. "You two are going to Cassie Fisher's after dinner?"
Chastity Ardall. Tilly didn't think the girl liked her after some incident with a hair piece, and went quiet. Luckily her new friend Edith wasn't scared of the girl and answered. "Maybe, I'll see how I feel. Are you?"
Chastity nodded and tried to catch Tilly's eye. "What about you, Wires?" She shrugged and stared at the girl's cross lying over her heart, which was unfortunately hidden under her chest. "Ergh! Lesbian." The girl cried, folding her arms and pulling her blazer tighter before turning her back and rejoining her friends.
Tilly's mouth popped open and she stared in shock, turning to Edith quickly. "I wasn't- I swear. I was just looking at her cross."
Edith shrugged a shoulder. "Doesn't matter either way." She said, smiling gently. "Good luck," She said in parting, heading into the class with Tilly following.
When they entered, Tilly noticed the desks had all been separated into rows and the girls were quickly filling the seats at the back, Edith among them. She took a place half way next to the window and placed her cat-in-the-bag closer to the wall, hoping Frank would be content to sit for an hour with the cat biscuits Tilly had added.
"Good morning Girls," Miss Lovell sang, greeting the class with one of her lovely warm smiles. "We will begin in a few moments, if you would all please check your headphones are working." The class poked the old pieces into their walls and played the demo.
"Bonjour et bienvenue," The smooth voice of a French man spilled into her ears and she heard some of the girls sigh.
"Salut," Tilly answered quietly.
"If you could please check your papers, you should have three sheets and if you don't have a pen, I have a few spare ones-" A dozen hands shot up into the air and Miss Lovell filled them all with biros. "You may now begin."
Tilly pressed play and began filling in her exam. She was halfway through the first page when she heard a latecomer apologise to Miss Lovell and weave through the seats to come sit down behind her. Tilly span around and beamed at the girl.
"Why are you late Lily?" She asked resting her head on the back of her seat. Lily was a nice girl, she'd sat next to her at the murder meeting and the two of them had quickly became friends.
"My name is Lobelia, not Lily!" She said, pulling up the corner of her lip in what could be annoyance. "And the reason I'm late, well, I don't think its any of your concern, do you?" Tilly's nose twitched. Lily was a nice girl and she intended to be nice in return.
In an attempt to be funny, she put on the best Southern accent she could muster (which, even she had to admit, wasn't very good), and winked at her. "Well, excuse moi, Miss Lobelia." She broke for a moment and giggled quietly, just like the other girls had before the exam had started. "I sure didn't mean to offend you." She broke out into giggling and saw Lobly return her show of amusement with a smile before looking down at her work, which Tilly took to be the queue, which was something Tilly was very good at picking up on, that their friendly conversation had ended. She turned back in her seat and heard someone in the corner squeal and rip out their headphones. Another two girls followed suit before half the class was ding the same and the other half just looked dazed and confused.
Miss Lovell looked flustered and began waving her hands, trying to quiet her class. "Girls! Girls- please, what is the matter?"
Someone near the front brandished her earphones in a fist. "Someone recorded over the tape with screams!" She said, rubbing her ear on her shoulder.
Another girl closer to Tilly piped up. "The French guy just stopped half-way through his sentence and was replaced by some girl screaming."
"Is this part of the test?" Another asked.
"Did someone stop the clock? Stop the clock, someone! Stop it!"
"Quiet now!" The petite teacher called. "The exam is, ah, paused, for now, and will resume tomorrow in class. Please, gather your things quietly and quickly and return to your dorms. There will be an announcement later-" She tried to finish though the whole class stood up, pushing back their chairs and flinging their bags over their shoulders and surged out of the room, pushing past the teacher.
As they all rushed out, Tilly was shoved into another blonde. For a moment she thought it was Chastity and felt her stomach drop. Surely this would only exacerbate things. When she went to apologise she saw it wasn't and felt instantly relieved. It was Cassie Fisher instead.
Cassie raised a delicate eyebrow and gave a small pursed smile. "Oh! Right, sorry Cassie Fisher." Tilly gushed, pulling her bag around and holding it to her chest, only to have Frank's claws dig into her. It would seem she was pushed when Tilly was and would now be grumpy for the rest of the week. Excellent.
"Its alright. Unless you meant it." Cassie said. "… Are you coming tonight?"
Tilly nodded ( a little too excitedly), and squirmed under Frank's claws. "Thank you for inviting me."
"Oh, well, its not really a big thing. Just kind of meeting part two."
"I know a lot about the suicides." Tilly offered, a few unspoken words hanging between them. "I'm happy to help." /To help keep you from being the next one to follow the pattern/.
"Yes, thank you. I'm sure Reed will be glad." They both stared down at their shoes fora while, Cassie's sweet pink ballet flats and Tilly's scuffed boots with her knitted socks poking out the top.
Tilly realised something needed to be said and blurted out the first though that came to her. "Where did you get the cider from?"

(If I've written anyone's character in a way that makes you want to throttle me, (especially poor Chastity, I hope you don't mind that I made a bit of conflict between the two of them lovely) please tell me and I'd be happy to edit before you call the mafia.)
