The famed Mahabharata epic climaxes upon the Kurusetra battlefield where the Pandawa brothers confront their evil cousins the Korawas. War became inevitable as accumulated supernatural powers escalated the fervor. Krishna the most beloved figure in Hinduism fought for the Pandawas leading Arjuna's chariot into battle. Wayan Suparta tells the story in the classic Kamasan style on blacu cloth; the flat images do not strive for space or perspective. Powdered pere (mountain stone) provides some of the colors.

Floating hoops evoke the ethereal essence of time in a colorful composition by Jesus Millones. He blends oils and acrylics to convey emotional intensity while paper textures in gray are intended to evoke the stone architecture of pre-Hispanic Peru. The artist's composition is inspired by a poem on anonymous authorship. I have time to love you but the seconds run out and I don't have time to tell you to kiss you with feeling to move you with caresses. I have time to love you if this second is eternal quotes the artist from Time to Love You. Titled Sigo a tu lado in Spanish.

Vintage Lithograph "Elles [Women]" by Lautrec
This captivating mid 20th century chromolithograph (each color laid in with a separate lithographic stone) by Toulouse Lautrec (1864-1901 France) is from a series of lithographs depicting genre scenes focusing on women. This is one of several lithographs from a portfolio printed in Paris in 1957. Printed on heavy stock on one side only. Please view our other listings from this series as well as our other listings of Lautrec graphics. 11"x15" unframed. Henri Toulouse-Lautrec became one of France's most prominent Post-Impressionist painters and capturing the nightlife of part of the city, was described as "the soul of Montmartre." After his death his fabulous lithographs elevated posters to the status of fine art. Toulouse-Lautrec moved to Paris in 1882 in order to learn from artists by working with them in their studios. He was especially impressed with Impressionist painter and sculptor Edgar Degas. Lautrec's subjects were primarily the bohemian world of Montmartre, the city's quarter where he lived and the area that had a mix that included starving artists, actors, actresses, singers and dancers such as La Goulue who created the Can Can and performed at the Moulin Rouge. It was also the location of racetracks, dancehalls and many bars and brothels, likely the places where he, a frequent visitor, got the syphilis that along with excessive alcohol consumption added to his health problems and caused his death. He partied and sketched the nightlife, and in the daytime, converted his sketches into paintings and lithographs.

Mixing media Peruvian artist Jesus Millones also blends past and present artistries. His style is passionate as he allows for oils and acrylics to mirror emotions through colorful intensity. With paper he creates textures that resemble the stone architecture of pre-Hispanic Peru. His brushwork is as lyrical as the poetry he admires. My objectives are your feelings one by one. From me to you laughing sadness crying smiles. My objective is you and only you so that I may love you. Now I can hear you feel your silence I can trek through your kisses and dream of your lips. I can even hear your melody when you're away and all turns to nostalgia says Millones as he recites from an anonymous poem. Titled Sigo a tu lado in Spanish.

For this hauntingly beautiful painting Theus turns his brush to the origins of the Inca empire. Capac y Mama Ocllo were said to have founded the great Andean civilization. Married to their son Sinchi Roca Mamacoca was much loved. When she died Sinchi Roca ordered a stone monument or huaca to be built to her memory. One day a bush began growing there eventually becoming a coca tree. The Inca chewed the leaves but commoners were forbidden to use them. Working in a palette of blues the Peruvian artist adds accents in bright jewel colors as he depicts Mamacoca arising from the leaves. Titled Mamacoca in Quechua.

Dr. Sneh Gangal selects a palette of intrepid colors for this yantra painting to worship Durga known as the goddess beyond reach. She is one of the manifestations of goddess Parvati wife of Shiva. It's not meant for all forms of worship of Durga. I painted this yantra specifically for her Om Hrim Dum Durgayai Namah mantra to be intoned when seeking the fulfillment of all desires worldly as well as heavenly. Dr. Gangal paints the yantra with natural stone colors on ivory paper. The painting is mounted on lined card paper. Dr. Gangal is inspired by the yantras in Mantra Mahodathi by Dr. Sudhakar Malvaya. A yantra according to Indian metaphysics is a geometric representation of energy. According to Hindu Tantras a mantra is regarded as the ray of consciousness that a yantra represents figuratively. Indian truth-seekers believe that everything in this world represents the abstract energies of a deity hence every visual phenomenon is a form of yantra. Each yantra has a distinctive pattern that cannot be changed but which Dr. Gangal embellishes in her own creative way.

With Krishna as charioteer Arjuna approaches the Kurusetra battlefield to combat Karna and Salya in order to regain the throne under Lord Indra's watchful eye. Inspired by one of India's epic legends the Mahabharata Wayan Suparta depicts the famed scene in the traditional Kamasan style developed in the village of the same name. Kamasan paintings are characterized by a flat composition where there is no sense of perspective. In Suparta's version only red is obtained from a powdered koral (stone) known as pere. For the rest Suparta uses acrylics and Staedler ink. The artist paints this highly expressive and detailed composition on a blacu cloth 100% cotton. The Mahabharata is an epic Hindu legend that tells of the fortunes and misfortunes of the Panca ( Five ) Pandawa brothers who must do battle with their cousins the Korawas to end their exile and return to the throne of the kingdom of Astina Pura. One of the Pandawa brothers Arjuna is regarded as an excellent warrior and thanks to Lord Krishna's intercession they manage to defeat their evil cousins during a fierce battle in the Kurusetra fields.
