  • Bensen Edward Sofa - Edw245
    hivemodern.com
Design Niels Bendtsen. Molded foam, steel, webbing, down, Italian upholstery. Made in British Columbia by Bensen. The Edward sofa is an update of the BENSEN Ed sofa and utilizes a number of new production techniques for improved comfort and a more refined profile. The name Edward is a reference to American mid century designer Edward Wormley whose designs have remained highly influential in the design community. Edward combines the use of several down-filled back cushions with a single seat cushion to give it an informal and relaxed appearance. The buttoned seat cushion alludes to the Edward's mid century roots, yet its proportions and comfort are decidedly contemporary. The backrest and arms are appropriately scaled to give excellent back support without appearing oversized and heavy, while the down-filled back cushions conform to give superb comfort. The sofa's frame is constructed with a durable steel frame featuring an elastic webbing suspension system adapted from the automotive industry with CNC precision cut foam used for the arms and back to give superior comfort and a tailored appearance. The imported European seat and down back cushions have been carefully selected for durability, firmness and comfort. Seat cushions are made of CFC-free polyurethane, softened by a continuous soft fiber wrap. Back cushions are baffled for even distribution of feathers and batting and to prevent shifting, thereby providing better lumbar support. Edward is available in three sizes, and can be specified in either fabric or leather, or in fabric with a leather seat (please call for details). Legs are finished with a dark Bronzatto finish, and are removable. All covers are slip-covered. Cushions are included as indicated in the line drawing. Additional cushions can be ordered separately. • Bensen Morgan Sofa - 210
    hivemodern.com
Design Niels Bendtsen, 2012. Molded foam, steel, webbing, down, Italian upholstery. Made in British Columbia by Bensen. The Morgan sofa was designed with a single purpose in mind: uncompromised comfort. The design subtly combines elements of formal high back sofas with a casual modern attitude to create a sofa that is superbly comfortable and suitable for a broad range of interiors. Morgan is characterized by its distinct high back, cut-away arm profile, and sumptuous down cushions. The high back profile provides full head and shoulder support, and extends part way around the sides to form comfortable corner nooks. Chunky wood legs raise the sofa to a more comfortable seat height and balance the proportions. Morgan is built on a durable steel under-frame with bi-directional elastic webbing suspension for superior strength and lightness. To this, a precision made wood top-frame and CNC precision cutfoam is used for the arms and back to give superior comfort and a tailored appearance. The luxurious seat cushions are cleverly engineered with a memory-foam core and wrapped in a generous amount of feather and down to provide the perfect amount of support, allowing the sitter to "sink" into its softness. The cushion covers are precisely sized to give a soft casual appearance without looking sloppy or loose. Down back cushions complement the softness and appearance of the seat, while the frame retains a crisp tailored form. Morgan is available in three sizes in a variety of fabrics and leathers. • Vitra Monopod Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Jasper Morrison, 2008. Polyethylene, foam seat, upholstery. Made in Germany by Vitra. Jasper Morrison's Monopod is a sculptural piece, vaguely reminiscent of primordial stone or wooden objects. the Monopod stands sturdily, tapering with an elegant curve to a wedge-shaped backrest. As a small visitor armchair, the Monopod is a companion for sofas and larger armchairs, and in public areas, thanks to its solidity, can be used in lounges and reception areas. The structure of the armchair, with its plastic shell upholstered on the inside means that the Monopod retains its precise shape even if used for lengthier periods and is very comfortable. Born in London, Jasper Morrison studied design at the Royal College of Art and at the HdK in Berlin. Editor of the Design Year Book in 1999 with a passion for the history of design. Morrison's objects provide a quiet contrast to the creative exuberance of the Eighties. The visual restraint, high functionalism and constructive simplicity attract attention to his work. 29" h | 18.75" w | 29" d | seat: 14.5" h.

  • Vitra C1 Lounge Armchair
    hivemodern.com
Design Verner Panton, 1959. Laminated body, foam, upholstery, stainless steel. Made in Germany by Vitra. "Most people spend their lives living in dreary, beige conformity, mortally afraid of using color. The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting." -Verner Panton. Verner Panton's career as a designer first peaked at the end of the 1950's. With a series of furniture featuring basic geometrical shapes he pre-empted Pop Art ideas and yet with the base frames clearly adopted the elegance of Scandinavian Modernism. With the C1 armchair created around the same time, Verner Panton for the first time chose a section of a sphere. On swivel bearings and slightly tilted, the upholstered seat shell is astonishingly comfortable-both for relaxed sitting, leaning back and for upright sitting. The C1 can be integrated into private apartments, hotels or reception areas, cuts a fine figure in larger groups, and can be complimented by the matching stool. As one of the most influential and remarkable designers of the era, Verner Panton has created objects, spaces and art. His original, space age designs have won numerous awards and been exhibited in museums and private collections around the world. His ideaologies and design concepts are apparent and have had great influence on 21st century design. chair: 29" h | 26" w | 22.75" d.
