Jon Gasca has learned much from his father, Jesús, founder and principal designer of Stua ( solo tengo un amor , or “I have only one love”), including the patience for developing an idea. When he first saw the prototype for his Eclipse Nesting Tables (2009), he wondered: “Will it make an impression on people? And will it be enjoyed for a long time?” For this organically shaped set of modular tables – and all the other items Stua creates – the answer to those questions is “yes.” Eclipse Nesting Tables are each a different shape and height, allowing for endless configurations. The smaller ones can be concealed under the larger and brought out when more tabletop space is needed. Simple assembly required. Made in Spain. The multicolor set includes a large oak table, medium walnut table and small wenge table. For even more tabletop space, add the Extra-Large Eclipse Nesting Table.

  • Herbert Krenchel Krenit Bowl, Medium
    SOLD OUT: More info
“I am excited about shapes and structures,” says Danish designer Herbert Krenchel. “The surface on a design object is important because it makes people want to reach out for it.” His hand-finished Krenit Bowl (1950s), with a bold colored interior that pops against a matte black exterior, serves as an inviting vessel for all sorts of items. Its utility and form are purposeful: “I also believe that there has to be a balance between function and aesthetics,” continues Krenchel. “A good design must therefore contain more than one aspect to make the perfect overall impression.” Krenchel’s now-iconic Krenit (a combination of his name and Eternit, the name of a fiber cement he used in his work) was the recipient of the gold medal at the 1954 Milan Triennial. Introduced in the early ’50s, the bowl was produced until 1966 and reintroduced by Normann Copenhagen in 2008. The Danish design company has stayed true to Krenchel’s specifications, finishing each piece by hand, but has updated the interior material from hard-to-maintain enamel to durable and lightweight melamine. The food-safe Krenit maintains its steel exterior – it was conceptualized before the advent of microwaves, after all – so be sure not to nuke it. Not dishwasher safe or for use with steel utensils. Clean by hand with warm water, then wipe thoroughly. We recommend oiling the edges regularly to prevent rust. Made in Denmark.
  • Eero Saarinen Womb Chair in Leather
    SOLD OUT: More info
The expressive sculptural forms of Eero Saarinen’s furniture can also be found in his architecture, from the TWA Terminal at Kennedy Airport to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis to Dulles International Airport. In 1940, the Finnish American and his friend Charles Eames took first prize at the Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition at MoMA. Later that decade, when Florence Knoll challenged Saarinen to create a chair that she could curl up in, she had found the right candidate for the task. The Womb Chair and Ottoman (1946) has an enveloping form that continues to be one of the most iconic and recognized representations of mid-century organic modernism. By applying foam molded over a fiberglass shell, Saarinen created a single-piece form that perfectly facilitates a relaxed sitting posture. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original specifications of the designer. Made in U.S.A.
  • Finn Juhl Credenza
    SOLD OUT: More info
After studying at the famous Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and working for architect Vilhelm Lauritzen, Finn Juhl set up his own design office in 1945. Later that year, Juhl and master cabinetmaker Niels Voder, collaborators since 1937, created a buzz at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibition with their expressive, sculptural pieces. In 1951, Juhl went on to make his stateside debut at the Good Design exhibit in Chicago and at MoMA in New York, and he represented Denmark in designing a meeting chamber at United Nations Headquarters. The trained architect and self-taught furniture designer drew the inspiration for his Finn Juhl Credenza (1955) from the cubist movement and Goethe’s color wheel, reflected in the piece’s simple geometric shapes and interlocking planes and its sliding doors and six trays finished in varying shades of blue lacquer. The left interior has two removable pegged shelves, the right an open compartment next to the one for the trays. Holding the walnut body, the hand-burnished steel frame with wooden feet lends the piece airiness. Ships fully assembled. Made in Denmark.
  • George Nelson and Associates Nelson Crisscross Ball Pendant Lamp
    SOLD OUT: More info
Architect George Nelson, who was Herman Miller’s design director from 1946 to 1972, said: "Every truly original idea seems to find its most important expression in a chair.” And then he blew the doors off lighting design. When Nelson was outfitting his office, he coveted a silk-covered Swedish hanging lamp but found it prohibitively expensive. He then recalled seeing a photo in the paper of Liberty ships being mothballed "by having the decks covered with netting and then being sprayed with a self-webbing plastic,” said Nelson. "And then, Whammo!” Inspiration struck, and by the next night, Nelson had designed his first Bubble Lamp® (1947), using a spray coating of translucent plastic polymer over a skeleton of steel wire. "When you put a light in it, it glowed.” A wide range of shapes and sizes are now available. UL Listed. Bulb (not included): incandescent 150W/120V/E26/A21 max. Made in U.S.A. The Nelson Triple Bubble Fixture Kit (sold separately) accommodates three Nelson Ball, Cigar, Pear, Saucer or Lantern hanging pendants that are 19" in diameter or smaller.
  • Finn Juhl Chieftains Chair
    SOLD OUT: More info
With distinctive shapes inspired by primitive weaponry and a seat that appears suspended above the frame, the sculptural form of the Chieftains Chair (1949) changed the future of Danish design. Finn Juhl created the chair for the 1949 Cabinetmakers’ Guild in Copenhagen. During the exhibition, King Frederick IX sat in the chair, causing a journalist to suggest calling it the “King’s Chair.” But Juhl didn’t like how pretentious that sounded and said, “You had better call it a chieftain’s chair,” which the journalist did. (At some point the apostrophe was dropped.) This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Onecollection, House of Finn Juhl™. Made in Denmark. Finn Juhl believed that “the craftsman’s ability to form is probably the same as that of a sculptor.” The Chieftains Chair received the Danish Design Award in the Classics category for 2012.

  • Irving Harper Nelson Sunflower Clock
    SOLD OUT: More info
The large-scale Sunflower Clock (1958) is one of more than 150 clocks designed by George Nelson Associates for the Howard Miller Clock Company, which sold them from 1949 into the 1980s. Nelson Associates, first launched as a studio by George Nelson in 1947 in New York City, employed some of the most celebrated designers of the time, including Irving Harper, Don Chadwick and John Pile, all of whom contributed to the clocks. Until its closure in the mid-1980s, the company designed a range of products for many clients, including Herman Miller, Inc., which was established in 1923 by Howard Miller’s brother-in-law, D.J. De Pree. A bit of family history: De Pree also founded the Herman Miller Clock Company in 1926 but turned it over in 1937 to Howard, who renamed it. As for the identity of Herman Miller, he was Howard’s father and De Pree’s father-in-law. The Miller companies are not affiliated but stand across the street from one another in Zeeland, Mich. The Sunflower Clock appeared in the original Miller brochure as Model 2261. This is an authentic Nelson Clock, produced by Vitra Design Museum. Uses one AA battery (included). Made in Poland.
