  • Vitra - Amoebe Highback Armchair
    connox.com
The Amoebe emerged in 1970 in several editions for Verner Panton’s famous Visiona installation. The Danish presented revolutionary new living concepts there, which are still very current and even modern. The name Amoebe shows that Verner Panton thought of living organisms in his one-piece, flowing chairs – Panton’s natural shape doesn’t know any aging. The Amoebe is a succeeded example for this type of ground-based lounge chairs and it embodies the happy-cheeky 70s. Conventional chairs weren’t desired anymore, it was about low, comfortable furniture to be used in many different ways instead. The flexible backrest of the Vitra Amoebe Highback shows up sculptural over its head and it forms a kind of canopy over the user. The Amoebe Highback armchair therewith transmits a feeling of comfort and retreat – especially in big, open rooms. Vitra manufactures the organic armchair of a laminated structure with foam cushions, which are coated with the sophisticated Tonus fabric by Kvadrat.

  • Moroso Bohemian Tall Armchair
    hivemodern.com
Design Patricia Urquiola, 2008. Injected foam, resin frame, varnished steel, upholstery. Made in Italy by Moroso. Patricia Urquiola is the designer who best expresses Moroso's vision; she has therefore created the main range of the new Bohemian collection. She has taken a very original approach to classic capitonné work, giving it a revolutionary modern look. Creating emotions. Patricia's Bohemian family of products - sofa, chaise longue and armchairs - have very fluid forms, almost as if they were melting over their frame, creating soft, irregular, enveloping, almost casual lines, where the fabric or leather is fixed to the shell with press-studs. Born in Oviedo, Patricia Urquiola attended the Madrid Polytechnic and the Milan Polytechnic Universities where she graduated in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni as her supervisor of whom she was assistant at the Milan Polytechnic from 1990 to 1992. She has worked with many great talents and a plethora of companies worldwide. This brilliant Spanish architect is a phenomenon not to be lost sight of. The Bohemian tall armchair features injected foam over an internal resin frame that sits on a steel swivel base. Very contemporary, a modern slant on a classic. This fresh approach was only possible thanks to Moroso's manual ability and know-how. As if they were working in a fashion atelier, Moroso's "tailors" treat the fabric with supreme nonchalance, transforming it at will, bringing it to life and giving shape to the designer's vision. Please note: one matching 23" seat cushion is included with your order. This product can also be ordered without a seat cushion (please call for to order). All other cushions seen in pictures are not included. Back side is covered in matching upholstery. • Herman Miller® Eames® Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Charles & Ray Eames, 1956. Molded plywood, die-cast aluminum legs, leather upholstery. Made by Herman Miller® "Who would say that pleasure is not useful?" -Charles Eames. The Eames lounge chair is the culmination of Charles and Ray Eames' efforts to create comfortable and handsome lounge seating by using production techniques that combine technology and handcraftsmanship. Its heritage goes back to the molded plywood chairs pioneered by the Eameses in the 1940s. The Eames lounge chair is considered among the most significant and collectible furniture designs of the 20th century and is part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Charles Eames said his goal for the chair was the "warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt." Every one is a special refuge from the strains of modern living. The first lounge chair, produced in 1956, was a birthday gift for friend Billy Wilder, the Academy Award-winning film director, and it made its public debut on Arlene Francis' Home show, which later became the Today show. With a grand sense of adventure, Charles and Ray Eames turned their curiosity and boundless enthusiasm into creations that established them as a truly great husband-and-wife design team. Their unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Playful and functional. Sleek, sophisticated, and beautifully simple. That was and is the "Eames look." Every lounge chair manufactured since the original has received the same meticulous handcrafted attention. The rich veneer and supple leather suggest old-fashioned luxury translated into modern forms, setting an enduring standard for comfort and elegance. In addition, the lounge chair is now available in a veneer called santos palisander, a lustrous veneer that has the same characteristics as the original rosewood, color and grain. The chair has 6-inch thick urethane foam cushions and rich leather upholstery available in your choice of colors. The wood is harvested exclusively from sustainably managed forests and is available in five finish options. All pieces are hand assembled with a built-in swivel mechanism. chair: 32.75" w | 32.75" d | 32" h | seat: 15" h.

  • Artifort Tulip Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1965. Upholstery, polished swivel base, chrome. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the simple Tulip spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time. The Tulip is stately with a high back, which is an eminently comfortable armchair. With its matching footstool, it makes a strong and yet exceptionally comfortable combination. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances. Restored to its place of honor - the Tulip chair has been reintroduced with its original cross-base. Having once fallen from favor due to the arrival of the swivelling disk base, it can now be admired in all its original glory. The polished stainless steel metal-strip cross-base looks lighter and airier than the disk and gives the Tulip an elegant twist. 35" w | 32" d | 37" h | seat: 15" h. matching ottoman also available.
  • Bernhardt Design Chiara Lounge Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance, 2013. Upholstery, polished aluminum base. Made in USA by Bernhardt Design. Chiara, by Parisian designer Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance, is a response to a world that can't stop talking. "Our personal and professional worlds have blurred together. Technology and media are ubiquitous. Chiara lounge chair is a refuge from our overstimulated world," says Duchaufour-Lawrance. For the seat, Duchaufour-Lawrance drew from the shapes of flower petals and leaves. As a result, the chair cradles without enveloping you. Chiara is at once supportive, but not restrictive. As a modern lounge piece, Chiara's generous open seat swivels and allows you to use the chair in different ways. Chiara is meant to adjust to your needs, rather than dictate how it is to be used. In a world screaming for our attention, Chiara stands out with its invitation to rest, listen and reflect. Born in South France, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a designer of objects and interior environments. Following in the footsteps of his father, a sculptor, his artistic interests developed at an early age. Growing up in this creative atmosphere, he had the opportunity to define his own language: using natural shapes with smooth and organic lines which remain fluid and structured at the same time. After earning a degree in Metal Sculpture from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art, he studied furniture design at the renowned Les Arts Décoratifs. Chiara is fully upholstered in your choice of textile with a polished aluminum self-return swivel base. 33" w | 29" d | 29" h | seat: 16.5" h.
