“Hi girls,” I said to Noelle and Stella who were sitting together at a table. I placed down two coffees as well as a croissant and a muffin. “How are you?”
“Great,” Noelle told me while a little Isabelle devoured the muffin. “I’m so happy you work here. I’m going to be here a lot more now.”
“Me too,” Stella laughed. I hadn’t been around her a lot, but she seemed really friendly and nice, and I made a mental note to get her phone number.
“Well I have to get back to work,” I said, fluffing Isabelle’s hair, “But I’ll see you girls later. Bye,” I waved and went back behind the counter. I put in another pot of coffee and served a few more customers before going outside and behind the building for my break.
I liked to sit out here where no one was around, just by myself for a few moments. To think. Or maybe not to. The only noise was the very distant chatter from the café and the cars driving past.
“Who are you?” A deep voice came from my right and I looked over to see a guy with dreadlocks smoking a cigarette standing at the other end of the building. When I noticed him, he slowly walked closer to me.
I scrunched my nose. I hated cigarettes. “You know that those things are really bad for your health,” I pointed out, nodding toward the cigarette.
He smirked. “I am aware of that, yes, but have you ever tried one? It’s…intoxicating.”
“And also deadly,” I told him. I stood. I already didn’t like this guy. I knew /everyone/ in Seattle and yet I had never seen him before. He had probably been holed up in a tiny apartment smoking cigarettes his entire life.
“Try it,” He held the cigarette out to me and I shook my head, “I don’t think so. Thanks for the offer, though.”
I tried to turn but he grabbed my arm. I flinched at the physical contact. “What do you want?”
“You,” He smirked again, a smirk that turned me on so greatly but I knew it should have disgusted me. He was bad news, I knew. But yet I couldn’t walk away. “What’s your name?”
“Abigail,” I told him, feeling the heat creep up my neck. “People call me Abbey though…”
“You look like an Abbey. You act like you’re so innocent and sweet but I can tell. You’re a bit of a crazy b-tch, am I right?”
My jaw dropped. “I don’t know who you are, but I am not-“
He laughed. I couldn’t help but blush again. My face was probably bright red by now. “I’m just kidding! Or am I?”
I narrowed my eyes at him, wondering if I should leave now and go back to work. I would probably never see him again anyway. “Who /are/ you?”
“That’s up to you to decide.” He said simply, throwing his cigarette to the ground and smashing it into the tar. “But my name is (coming soon..). See you around, Abbey.”
I walked back into the café, stunned. Cat saw me and immediately raised her eyebrows at me. I just shrugged and went onto serve Erin and Kaley. That was… weird.
