The best and worst thing about living in Minnesota is the winter. It is what I miss the most, except for my friends.
I miss the clean, cold air, the bright sunshine and the dark, still nights. I miss snow on trees in the woods and under streetlights, glowing in shades of surreal and nocturnal colors.
White Ice is a formal study of a snowball structure sculpted by artists on Plymouth Lake in the winter of 2005. I was drawn to its stark whiteness, heightened by a deep blue sky on one of these sharp, clear afternoons. It is winter reduced to some of its pure, tactile, seductive and ephemeral elements.
