  • Thos. Moser Sequel Chair
    thosmoser.com
    Thos. Moser Sequel Chair
The Sequel Chair is David Moser's interpretation of Tom Moser's icon, the Continuous Arm Chair. A number of years ago, a long time admirer of Thos. Moser and fan of Tom's Continuous Arm Chair (TMC), asked of son David Moser the following question: "As an accomplished designer and maker in your own right at Thos. Moser, one with a more contemporary aesthetic yet iterative sensibility, what would your take on Tom's TMC look like? After all, if the TMC is interprets a classical Windsor, what could its Sequel be in the hands of a next generation Moser?" As the only American makers showing at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in the mid-1980s, Tom and Mary witnessed something they already knew to be true: that the best design is often incremental, building over time on work from the past. Years later, David himself confirmed, "Though we are innovators, the Moser aesthetic is iterative and almost always evolutionary, owing deference to antecedent form." That iteration then was the challenge, and Sequel is the result. Appropriate for a variety of environments, the Sequel Chair is as much a guest/accent chair as a dining chair. The Sequel Chair can be crafted from most solid American hardwoods, although the complexity of the bendings may be limiting. Please inquire for requests other than walnut or cherry.

    Thos. Moser Sofia Two-Place Sofa
Perhaps no other piece we've designed better celebrates the natural glory of cherry and our desire to create objects of timeless grace than the Sofia collection. One's eye is drawn along the swirling cherry patterns of its side panels to the darker, delicately tapered corner joint framed between. The corner joint, and hence the name of this piece, was inspired by the domed Hagia Sophia in Istanbul , where triangular vaulted wedges called pendentives cradle the circular dome on its square foundation. The long cherry panels and wine-glass-shaped corner joints remind us of the graceful lines of an old wooden boat transom.

Holiday Sale Whether you are getting a gift or treating yourself, now is a great time to buy as many of our most popular designs are on sale for the holidays. The Hartford Collection has won an Architizer A+ Jury Award in the Furniture - Residential category As an Architizer A+ Jury Award Winner , the Hartford Collection was selected by an illustrious jury, comprising equal parts architects+designers, cultural thought leaders and developers, from amongst hundreds of entries from around the world in each category. Read on to learn more about the Hartford Coffee Table, and click here to learn more about the Architizer A+ Awards and see photos from the awards gala held in New York on May 12, 2016. The Hartford Lounge Chair is the result of an iterative process consisting of charting, mocking up, and reworking seating angles and 'human factor' variables. It is, stated simply - a comfortable chair. Aesthetically consistent, this chair successfully expands the Moser Lounge vocabulary using the Hartford language. From a design perspective, the Hartford Lounge Chair is of a similar architecture to the Fahmida Chair or the Ellipse Lounge but has a unique perspective on the archetype. The chair relies heavily on CNC shaping to achieve its complex parts and align it aesthetically with the rest of the collection. The back leg starts as a severe steam bending, and the other parts start as solid wood "blanks", i.e. blocks of solid wood. Then each part, with the exception of the front seat rail and the back slats, is machined with a 5-axis CNC machine to achieve the intended geometry before assembly, final shaping, and sanding and finishing. The result is both hi tech and lo tech, traditional and modern - in short, very Moser. The comfort of the chair is achieved with a simple foam back topped with dacron then wrapped, resting on a seat cushion comprised of foam and dacron - both the back cushion and seat cushion sit atop atop a substrate. The substrate is wrapped in the same leather or fabric. The Hartford Lounge Chair can be made in most American hardwoods including walnut (shown), cherry, and maple. It comes with one lumbar pillow and can be upholstered in your choice of leather or fabric. Like any Moser furniture, this piece is guaranteed for life. We are confident that our innovative joinery and continued commitment to upholstery development has only raised the bar for Moser quality.

    Thos. Moser Portland Chair, cherry
Holiday Sale Whether you are getting a gift or treating yourself, now is a great time to buy as many of our most popular designs are on sale for the holidays. The Portland Chair has won an Architizer A+ Jury Award AND Popular Choice Award in the Seating - Residential category. As an Architizer A+ Jury Award Winner , the Portland Chair was selected by an illustrious jury, comprising equal parts architects+designers, cultural thought leaders and developers, from amongst hundreds of entries from around the world in each category. And as an Architizer A+ Popular Choice Winner , the Portland Chair was also selected by the online voting public after a three week long campaign. Read on to learn more about the Portland Chair, and click here to learn more about the Architizer A+ Awards and see some photos from the awards gala held in New York on May 12, 2016. The Portland Chair is the result of a collaboration with designer Ben Klebba who founded and operates Phloem Studio in Portland, Oregon. The chair is named after both the Portland that Ben calls home and the Portland that is the metropolitan center of Maine. Read more about the Portland Chair as featured by The Oregonian, Ben's hometown newspaper, in this article on oregonlive.com. A few words from the designer: I grew up in Michigan, the son of a craftsman who built the house I grew up in, the furniture within it, and wooden sailboats our family would take out on Lake Huron. I swept the floor of my dad's shop and sanded many boards, making Adirondack chairs to sell in the summer to make extra cash. I now live in Portland, Oregon and own Phloem Studio, where my father and I and a small team make contemporary furniture. I'm covered in sawdust most days. We keep our furniture simple, with an emphasis on traditional joinery and natural materials. I was honored to design a chair for Thos. Moser. Tom's spindle back chairs were an inspiration. I wanted to make a side chair or café chair that was strong but minimal, inspired by Danish modernism and Shaker simplicity, with exposed joinery and turned and tapered limbs. I named the chair Portland, after the place I call home and the other, older Portland I was happy to visit in Maine. - Benjamin Klebba, founder Phloem Studio This chair represents Thos. Moser's commitment to find and partner like minded designer/makers to further explore through a contemporary lens what is possible within the parameters of the brand, and modern craft itself. The result embodies all things Moser; a dedication to functionally driven objects, formal simplicity, the characteristic elimination of ornament, use and celebration of traditional materials and woodworking techniques -all with an emphasis on craftsmanship. These characteristics are not only compatible, but exemplary of what the Moser brand has come to stand for, and this chair is yet another iteration of Moser quality. The Portland Chair consists of four turned and tapered legs. The legs are turned a second time after becoming tapered, this time 'off-center' which accounts for the subtle taper at the bottom of the front legs and at both the bottom and top of the rear legs. The rails are cross-lapped beneath the subtly carved seat and their tenons go through the front and rear legs where they are wedged for both strength and visible interest. The top of the legs also come through the steam-bent crest rail and are too finished with a visible wedged tenon. The Portland Chair is a dining chair, and can be made in most American hardwoods (shown in cherry). Its relatively small footprint may make it attractive for smaller spaces without compromising comfort, aesthetics or quality.

The Laptop Desk takes its inspiration from Thomas Jefferson's ingenious "lap desk," the portable writing desk upon which Jefferson drafted his own dream, the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson's desk featured a hinged, slanted writing surface that cleverly opened above a storage compartment inside. We've adapted our desk to full size, ergonomically sound and supremely functional, all the while maintaining the timeless essence of our design aesthetic-a promise that this piece will appreciate through use even as your gadgets become obsolete. Our Laptop Desk continues to be an inspired marriage of 18th-century form and 21st-century function. Its solid cherry case is joined at the corners by sharp dovetails. Brass-hinged leather-and-cherry hatch lids enclose your computer and assorted peripherals. Once your work is done, shut the doors and all equipment will be neatly stowed away. The Laptop Desk is available in two versions: one for use with a desk chair and a tall/standing version for those who prefer to work vertically or while sitting on a stool. We built a customized rendition of this piece for Duckhorn Vineyards in California that dually serves as a desk for reception and transactions. As with most of our designs, we are happy to accommodate your unique requirements and singular dreams. NEWLY REDESIGNED INTERIOR We've redesigned the interior of this desk in response to the changing technology of office equipment. This allowed us to streamline some of the contsruction details and offer this desk at a lower price than the original version, without compromising functionality or craftsmanship. With these changes, the Laptop Desk is at once an impressive focal point and a workspace that encourages collaboration on a grand scale.

The Fahmida Chair celebrates contemporary design, the natural beauty of wood, and traditional joinery techniques that are a hallmark of all Thos. Moser furniture. It is the product of the first Emerging Designer Program by Thos. Moser, in collaboration with Dwell magazine and City Modern New York , and was recognized as a 2014 Best of Year Honoree by Interior Design magazine. >> CLICK HERE to read about the Fahmida Chair on the Architectural Digest blog << >> GearPatrol.com has named the Fahmida Chair as one of the "Greatest 100 Products On Earth" in the 2014 GP100 << Fahmida Lam, a residential furniture and accessories designer from Brooklyn who graduated from Pratt Institute, was selected to take part in a week-long experiential apprenticeship with Thos. Moser Director of Design, Adam Rogers. The result was the prototype for chair you see here, which we have named Fahmida in reference to the designer and was launched to the public at Dwell on Design 2014. The design of the Fahmida Chair is influenced by the Mid-Century Modern style, specifically, Danish Modern. Although admittedly inspired by the furniture born of the style, this piece - like any Thos. Moser piece or collection - has its own perspective and is a unique interpretation of its historical antecedents, through the lens of designer Fahmida Lam. Leveraging the strength and beauty of hand-finished American hardwoods such as cherry and walnut, the chair cuts a fresh, airy profile that naturally complements any thoughtful and clean aesthetic. Just as the Shaker style served as an appropriate creative spark in classic Thos. Moser pieces, the Danish Modern aesthetic acts here as a vehicle, identified and chosen because of its compatible philosophies, such as; a foremost dedication to quality, a dedication to functionally driven objects, formal simplicity, the characteristic elimination of ornament, use and celebration of traditional materials, and an emphasis on craftsmanship. These characteristics are not only compatible, but exemplary of what the Thos. Moser brand has come to stand for, and this piece is yet another iteration of Thos. Moser quality. "When we introduced the emerging designers program, my goal was to heighten respect for the craft of wood furniture; how it necessarily requires an understanding of and respect for the natural material, while allowing the craft itself to serve as a counterpart in the design process" - Adam Rogers , Thos. Moser director of design ABOUT THE DESIGNER In 2013, Pratt graduate and Brooklyn native, Fahmida Lam was invited to Thos. Moser to design and build a chair. Fahmida, an emerging residential furniture and accessories designer whose portfolio also includes lighting, home accessories and soft goods, worked closely with Adam Rogers, Director of Design and Product Development, and master craftsman Warren Shaw, to leverage the techniques, material and joinery of Moser to guide and express her design. The collaboration resulted in the decision to launch and include the Fahmida Chair in our product offerings for summer 2014.

The designers at Thos. Moser, as part of the continuum of great American craftsmanship, often strive to reference historic styles of design in ways that reflect modern life. Six years in the making, the Newport Chair is just such an example, harkening back to the Windsor form of some 200 years ago. Utilizing methods developed by the Amish for making wagon wheel spokes, our craftsmen employ these techniques in the Newport Chair to unite, as one, great beauty, extreme comfort, and lifelong pleasure. The Windsor chair, the original inspiration and predecessor for the Newport Chair, can be found in the Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport, Rhode Island. Read the complete story below... Two Hundred Years of History Six years in the making by the time it was introduced in 2003, the Newport Chair is a worthy heir to its early-American design heritage. In 1764, the Redwood Library in Newport, Rhode Island purchased twelve low-backed Windsor chairs. For over 200 years these chairs endured, and were in daily use through the 1990's. Today, one of these chairs is on display in the Redwood Library and the other remaining five are housed in the library's vault. The simple yet sturdy form of these classic chairs inspired our own 21st-century edition. A refined workhorse of a chair-able to support 10-15 times its weight, it will happily endure the rigors of everyday life, growing more beautiful over time. The Newport Chair and one of the original twelve chairs at the Redwood Library in Newport, Rhode Island after over two centuries of use.

The serpentine curves of our new Crescent Sideboard are a challenge for even the most experienced cabinetmakers. Properly hanging doors with square sides requires woodworking skill. These doors are angled differently on each side to match the curved front. To ensure that each curved drawer fits flush, the faces must be carefully sanded by hand. We think the effort is worth it. The Crescent Sidebaord comes with ebonized drawer pulls as a standard. You may also specify natural cherry drawer pulls as no additional charge. Auburn Chair is named for the Maine location of the Thos. Moser workshop, and was inspired by a simple cafeteria chair made of steel and plastic that Tom and Mary spotted on a ferry from Maine to Nova Scotia. The Auburn Chair's curved back supports the lumbar in two directions at once, a geometric detail called an anticlastic curve - like a potato chip. "Whether from my sense of responsibility, my curiosity or perhaps closer to the truth, from my creative stubbornness in my 81st year, I find myself still drawn to the workbench," says Tom Moser, the latest result being the Auburn Chair. The Auburn Chair can be crafted from most solid American Hardwoods. Please inquire for requests other than walnut and cherry. The round top of the Hartford side table sits on three legs. Each leg comes through the top to become a visible joint. What is different than most Moser through tenons is that this joint is not wedged. This requires greater precision but affords a more contemporary take on a the traditional joint. For added durability, the joint is pinned from beneath the top. The top itself is carved to have a dished surface, both for aesthetic reasons so as to break up the plane visually, but also to serve a functional need, containing perhaps the items set on its surface. Typical of Moser furniture, we've tried to simplify each piece, stripping it to its required elements alone, here three legs, two stretchers, and a top. The opportunity for elevating the modest furniture forms comes through the attention to the relationship of one of these spared parts to another and emphasizing the few but thoughtful details. Our advanced technology and machining capabilities have elevated what is possible in craft. The design of this collection aims to embrace these capabilities and define 'visible joinery' in a new way with the collection's hallmark joint. The joint occurs at many intersections throughout the collection and is the result of a solid or steam bent piece being turned and mortised on the 5 axis CNC machine - a part otherwise difficult and inefficient to create. The hairline reveal serves to amplify the subtly of the joint and draw attention to the intersection itself. On the Side Table, this joint is visible where the horizontal stretchers meet the vertical legs. Because of it's straight-forward design, the side table can be easily customized. Although initially offered in a standard size, we can entertain many sizes, as requested by customers, on a custom basis.

    Thos. Moser Chaise
Holiday Sale Whether you are getting a gift or treating yourself, now is a great time to buy as many of our most popular designs are on sale for the holidays. Designed in collaboration between Tom and David Moser and introduced in 2000, our Chaise takes its inspiration from contemporary furniture designs created by European architects in the 1920's and 1930's. Taking our cue from the likes of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and Swiss-born architect and designer Le Corbusier, we've replaced tubular steel with the warmth of natural cherry and precision crafted mortise-and-tenon joinery. The sinuous cherry frame supports a webbed back, upholstered in full-grain leather. A removable headrest provides additional comfort, if desired. The two-position Chaise reclines fully without any handles or gadgets. Simply lean back and let gravity do the rest. The secret is in the geometry of the pivot, called a fulcrum, which is engineered to transfer an adult's center of gravity from slightly upright to supine in one fluid motion. Tom Moser's inspiration for this movement? The simplicity of a contemporary Italian-made aluminum lawn chair he sat in one afternoon in a friend's backyard. After many days of trial and error, he and David were finally able to make it work in wood.

As follow up to last fall's dining collection launch of Cumberland , the Hartford living collection is intended to embody and magnify all things Thos. Moser; a dedication to functionally driven objects, formal simplicity, the characteristic elimination of ornament, use and celebration of traditional materials and woodworking techniques-all with an emphasis on craftsmanship. The Hartford Sofa employs the collections hallmark joinery below the solid wood plinth (the base that the upholstered top attached to the legs below) where the legs connect to the stretchers. Atop the wood base sit the upholstered sides, back, and cushions. The overall footprint of the piece is relatively small, and the intended aesthetic is visually light. The foam seat cushions are attached to a substrate that has its center removed, allowing both structure for the cushions themselves and some give for comfort. The back cushions are loose and can be removed. The frames of the sides and back are covered in foam before being upholstered to soften the touch. The frames are attached to the solid wood plinth and to each other with mechanical fasteners so can be removed and reupholstered over time. The Hartford sofa can be made in most American hardwoods including walnut (shown), cherry, and maple. It can be upholstered in your choice of leather or fabric and comes with two matching throw pillows. Like any Moser furniture, this piece is guaranteed for life. We are confident that our innovative joinery and continued commitment to upholstery development has only raised the bar for Moser quality.

The oval shaped top of the Hartford coffee table sits on three legs, rather than the expected four. On the Coffee Table, this joint is visible where the horizontal stretchers meet the vertical legs. Because of it's straight-forward design, the coffee table can be easily customized. Although initially offered in a standard size, we can entertain many sizes, as requested by customers, on a custom basis.

Holiday Sale Whether you are getting a gift or treating yourself, now is a great time to buy as many of our most popular designs are on sale for the holidays. As is often the case with Thos. Moser furniture, this chair follows the format of a historical furniture form. Here the antecedent is a ladder back chair, a form made popular by and typically associated with the Shakers of the 18th century. Tom Moser's early work often referenced the work of the Shakers given the compatibility of ideals. This therefore is a logical form to reference in creating a chair to further the company's recommitment to the founding ideals. A few words from the designer: Reference to traditional furniture forms has long been a practice of Thos. Moser, including Tom Moser's Continuous Arm Chair ™, a reference to traditional Windsor forms. Here, the vehicle is the ladder back, a form made popular by and typically associated with the Shakers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Given the strong compatibility of ideals, Tom's early work was influenced and inspired by Shaker furniture. My design philosophy, and that embodied by Shaker work, is also highly compatible, and the ladder back seemed like the right vehicle for me to express my aesthetic perspective, through the lens of our ideals at Thos. Moser, combining hi tech computerized machining with lo tech hand tooling in service of uncompromising quality. Named after the Hancock Shaker Village, this chair offers a contemporary take on a historic furniture form. - Adam Rogers , Director of Design Just as the Shakers embraced technology, here we've employed the most advanced technology available in woodworking through the use of a 5 axis CNC. The acronym CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control and it uses a computer, programed by a craftsman, to perform complex cutting and routing. This machine, combined with many standard woodworking machines and a significant amount of hand work via traditional woodworking skills, add up to being what we refer to as 'appropriate craftsmanship'. That is, employing craft as appropriate, whether a high tech machine such as the CNC or low tech tool such as a hand plane, to achieve the desired outcome. Ultimately the commitment is to the object itself, and the quality thereof, regardless of its making process. The Hancock Chair is the sum of nine CNC machined steam bendings, three parts - front and side rails- sawn from solid blanks, and a seat woven with shaker tape. Each joint is mortise and tenon for unshakable strength. The webbed seat, referred to as "Shaker tape", provides enough flex to achieve a comfort otherwise impossible with a solid wood seat while remaining durable over the life of the chair itself. Standard webbing offering is black, other colors available on a custom basis. Appropriate for a variety of environments, the Hancock chair is as much a guest chair as a dining chair and can be used as a user seems fit. The Hancock Chair can be crafted from most solid American Hardwoods. Please inquire for requests other than walnut and cherry. Each chair will be handmade, and a skilled craftsman in the workshop in Maine will assemble each chair, signing each chair as a seal of quality.

The Hartford Media Case is an example of letting function dictate form. Designed simply as a case to satisfy a variety of functions with its primary use assumed to be the support of electronic components such as dvd players, stereo equipment, etc., its generic nature speaks to its versatility as a piece of furniture. Once again, the nuances of the piece are what define it - particularly the leg to rail detail and the drawer and door pull cut-outs. These details are consistent through the collection, thereby serving to connect it visually to its companion pieces while simultaneously helping to define its uniqueness. The left side has two doors that open to a single shelf on each side that sit on adjustable shelf pins and are hung on solid brass knife hinges. The right side has three drawers of equal size for storage. As standard, the piece comes with two wire management slots in the solid wood and framed rear panels of the doored compartments of the case. Other configurations can be considered on a custom basis. Because of it's straight-forward design, the media case can be easily customized based on specific electronic needs, or simply your preference.

Holiday Sale Whether you are getting a gift or treating yourself, now is a great time to buy as many of our most popular designs are on sale for the holidays. In addition, we've hand made a limited quantity of Continuous Arm Chairs in advance, and when ordered by December 9 we can deliver in time for Christmas to most US locations. Since Tom Moser first introduced the Continuous Arm Chair some four decades ago, it has become our signature piece and has consistently remained on our Top 10 best seller list. Taking roughly two years to perfect, this classic chair embodies our enduring commitment to functionally driven quality objects, formal simplicity, the elimination of ornamentation and the celebration of traditional materials through craftsmanship. To form the arms eleven knife-cut slices of the same board just one-tenth of an inch thick, called flitch, are laminated together. Then each continuous arm is painstakingly rasped, filed and sanded to a perfect smoothness. Learn more about this iconic design below... The Origin The continuous arm chair is a Windsor chair, a design that originated in England in the 1700s for use as garden furniture. Some people think the name Windsor came from the castle of the same name. One thing for certain, the original Windsor chairs were large, heavy (thus, hard to move around) but offered a good deal of comfort, which is the chief reason the style endured. In about 1750, Rhode Island cabinetmakers came up with the idea of making the arm and the back of the chair from a single piece of hickory or ash, two types of wood that lend themselves to being steam bent and curved. While undoubtedly beautiful and comfortable, the Continuous Arm Chair took tremendous skill and patience to make, because of the need to form a compound curve with right angle bends. In the early 1970s, Tom Moser set out to create a new generation of Continuous Arm Chair. It took him many years to perfect the design. He made the first prototypes for the back of the chair out of copper plumbing pipes, because they were easily bent and held their shape. Once he got the form just right, he created a wooden prototype and began experimenting with lamination and bending techniques. As Tom recalls, "Originally I used wedges, then I used a cams and straps to create the right pressure to form the bend. It still wasn't right, so I employed a stainless steel strap with a couple of arms that came off a logging truck and some ratchets. Finally, I graduated to using air pressure. The whole process took years, a little piece at a time." By the late 1970s, the Thos. Moser Continuous Arm Chair was ready to make its debut. Judging from the reception the chair received from our customers, it was well worth the effort. How it's Made The continuous arm in our signature chair is created using flitch-cut cherry. The process involves quartering and steaming sections of logs, then slicing them into tenth-inch thick strips. Because the strips are cut with a knife, not a saw, no saw dust is created and the strength of the board is preserved. Hence, when you glue the pieces back together, they are just as they grew in the tree. The beauty is that while it retains the appearance of a solid wood, the continuous arm is actually comprised of eleven different layers. It takes a tremendous amount of hand work to shape each continuous arm, because it's shape is oval in at the top, becomes round, then U-shaped with a flat surface where it meets the arms. Each arm is trimmed, then filed by hand using a course file called a horse rasp, then a finer rasp, and finished with a hand sander. Even the holes are drilled by eye. The Continuous Arm Chair also includes other refinements, such as a highlight (raised section) that runs around the back of the chair, where the spindles join the seat. The spindles extend all the way through the seat and are wedged top and bottom, making them not only aesthetically pleasing, but easily repaired, should the need ever arise. The spindles are so finely tuned, you can pluck them the way you would

The contemporary lines of the Sofia Chair in cherry or walnut will accompany an array of interior styles. Down-wrapped foam cushions upholstered in soft-grain leather offer comfort in the tradition of a British Men's Club chair from days gone by.

As seen on Treehouse Masters. When it comes to design, the irony is that it's difficult to be simple enough to be good. As designers it is our ambition to achieve designs to which, "nothing can be added and nothing can be taken away." The Edo Platform Bed is minimalist to the core. This design takes the hallmark cantilever of the Edo aesthetic, which began with tapering the chair seat to accentuate movement, and brings that "spirit" forward. The result is suspension in space. In defiance of gravity the Edo platform bed gives the effect of hovering over the floor. Supremely functional, this bed has built in side tables and a headboard that is perfectly positioned for bedtime reading. If you prefer, the design can also flex to accommodate one or none of the side tables (simply contact us to discuss options). The Edo Platform Bed is offered in Queen and King sizes, with other sizes available upon request (call for a quote).

This latest addition to the Moser portfolio embodies our enduring commitment to simplicity. Though inspired by Danish Modern forms, the Cumberland Sideboard has its own perspective and is a uniquely artistic interpretation of its historical antecedents. Check out the Cumberland Lookbook... Similar to the Cumberland Dining Table's exposed finger joinery, the ends of the Cumberland Sideboard's aprons come together at the corners with this visible traditional joint. The end grain creates a contrast in tones visible from alternating sides. The apron's corner joint is then shaped to sympathetically accept the top of the turned tapered leg, with the width of the fingers aligning with the diameter of the top of the leg. A healthy chamfer is introduced at the top of the leg to allow the joint some breathing room and draw its due visual attention. The drawer pulls are yet another example of Thos. Moser's committment to handcrafted products. Saddle leather is folded, adhered and hand-stitched to create a unique piece of hardware which is then fastened to the drawer front with three brass screws. The Cumberland Sideboard is dimensioned to sit visually above the dining surface of an adjacent dining table, establishing its own presence in a dining context. Four (4) solid wood fronted drawers provide ample storage - regardless of particular needs. As is true for all Thos. Moser drawer boxes, these are made from solid White Ash with our standard dovetail construction.

Each 36-inch high section has two adjustable shelves. From Father to Son There is a very interesting story behind the Windward Bookcase, which dates back to the 1920s. While growing up in Chicgao, Tom Moser had to endure the loss of both of his parents before finishing high school. His father Joseph Moser, a pressman at the Chicago Tribune, died on Tom's eighteenth birthday in 1953. Shortly thereafter Tom had quit school, left home, and joined the air force. When Tom came back some years later, there was almost nothing what so ever left from his mother and father. He had some little coffee cups from his mother, and nothing from his father. Then in the late 1980s, Tom's uncle Walter gave Tom a bookcase which had been made by Tom's father as a gift for his sister, Tom's aunt Annie, in the 1920s. It is nicely designed and well made Arts & Crafts style bookcase, and to this day it is the only thing that Tom owns that once belonged to his father. In designing the Windward Bookcase Tom made a number of changes, including removable shelves, but that's where it began, from an approximately 1922 bookcase that was designed and built by Joseph Moser. It also influenced the entire Windward Collection, included the patented Windward Chair and Sofas.

  • Thos. Moser Meridian Dining Chair

    Thos. Moser Meridian Dining Chair
David Moser's acute sense for aesthetic details are found in the fine radius of the dining chair's underside, the inverse matched radius at the top of the leg, and the optical correction effect at the termination of the chair's crest. The independent yet strong single back slat is a first for David and accentuates the sleek lines. Another first is the use of ash as the primary wood. While also offered in cherry, the clean, crisp aesthetic of ash creates an uplifting lightness that matches perfectly with this contemporary design and allows the grain and texture of the wood to come to the fore. The finish on Meridian in ash is a clear lacquer finish with a UV inhibitor to protect and seal the ash and minimize the impact of light and air on the color of the wood over time. This will be the first time we have used this exact finish, but we expect it will be a durable finish and easy to live with. The finish on Meridan in cherry is our standard oil and wax. Like all our furniture, Meridian is guaranteed for the life of the original owner, and there is much more finish info available in our maintenance and care guide which can be downloaded by clicking here.
