- Oh My God // Lily Allen
I need to stop introducing more characters to Ana’s life. My bad! [Well actually they’d be in her life but into the story. You know what I mean. Hopefully]
Ana Harper; March 6
I hated my photography class.
Don’t get me wrong. Photography was actually my favourite subjects in leaps and bounds. It was also my highest mark last year, I was top student in the school and I just enjoyed everything about it.
This year, it wasn’t so great. The class had shrunk to 7 students and there was only 1 other girl, and Katy was a bit of a b.tch. A major one actually.
Mostly however my biggest problem with it was the teacher. The new teacher this year Mr. Oats. He was old-fashioned and ancient and thought he knew better than everyone else. I also had my suspicions he was a tiny bit sexist. Well more than a tiny bit but that was a story for another day.
Anyway currently the classroom was mostly empty. Everyone was off scrambling to take the pictures for our first assignment that was due tomorrow. Everyone that is except Luke, Ryan and myself. Luke because he’d probably finished it pretty early. I was surprised Ryan was done but whatever it wasn’t my issue.
“How many days now till the Avengers movie?” Ryan asked me conversationally, as soon as Mr. Oats had left the room to check up on the others. He was lounging on the floor whilst I was curled up in my desk chair and Luke was of course sitting properly on his chair.
“I don’t know when it’s released.” I shrugged which was a lie it was April 25, “That’s something you’d have to ask Olivia about.”
“What’s the big deal about the Avengers anyway?” Luke asked in that high affected manner he had.
“What’s the big deal?” Ryan spluttered, “The Avengers is only iconic and the Marvel cinematic universe is ground breaking for superhero franchise and with Joss Whedon at the helm-“
He was starting to get worked up and an argument between these two was never going to end well so I cut in with a giggle, “Plus it’s full of really hot, really buff guys.” I told them wide eyed.
“Of course.” Luke scoffed, “Appealing to the shallow expectations of women and comic book nerds. All superhero movies are the same” And now he was going off on one of his rants. Really did not appreciate this.
“Oh please, get off your high horse sweetie.” I rolled my eyes and pursed my lips, “I distinctly remember you saying 2 years ago the best part of Iron Man 2 was Scarlett Johansson’s boobs.”
“Well yeah,” He rubbed the back of his neck, the closest he would ever get to admitting he was wrong, “That’s a totally objective viewpoint.”
“You have a valid point,” I inclined my head and Ryan nodded in fervent agreement, “You still noticed.”
“It’s hard not to.”
“I thought you worshipped Nolan’s batman series anyway.” I narrowed my eyes at him suspiciously.
“Yeah but that’s not a superhero film.” He argued in his oh so passionate way.
“Batman is like one of the most recognisable superheros ever.” Ryan snapped at him. This was not going to get ugly. I would slap them both up the head if they got anymore heated.
“But Nolan’s take is more of a thriller.” Luke shot back. “It’s based in realism.”
“So is the avengers.” The fat that Ryan was so passionately defending the Avengers and didn’t know the realise day was kind of amusing to me. I wisely didn’t mention it.
“Thor is an alien god.” Luke raised a skeptical eyebrow, “How on earth is that realistic.”
Ryan spluttered in response and I saw my chance to interject.
“Boys this is irrelevant.” I rolled my eyes, sure to show them how displeased I am, “Ryan don’t get so upset it’s just Luke being Luke.” I said with a sigh before pointing at Luke, “and you stop pretending your movie tastes are so high brow.”
Luke opened his mouth to respond, and I so would have loved to hear what the response was except we were cut off by the creepy old man voice of Mr. Oats.
“What are you three doing?” He boomed at us, arms crossed and scowling.
We exchanged looks and clearly they weren’t going to say anything so it fell to me “Discussing photography techniques.” I said confidently.
“I do not believe that.” Well ok he was right there, “I will not tolerate time waisting or lying in my class.” Well if he’d given us more work then we would have something to do.
“Sorry sir. We didn’t mean to waste time” Luke replied, his voice rife with distaste which Mr Oats could clearly not see. “It’s just we had no other work to do.”
“I can see that, you should have taken initiative and asked me.” What a dick. It took all I had in me not to roll my eyes, “And you two may be done.” He eyed me in just a really nasty way before turning his attention to Ryan, “However Mr. Bines has not. I am disappointed.”
“I have finished sir.” Ryan spat out the last word - already he hated the guy more than I did.
“I have not received them.”
“Yes you have” Ryan wasn’t as good at hiding his dislike for the man which was so gonna get him in trouble one day “I emailed them to you sir”
“Yes and I believe they are not completed to a satisfactory level. It looks like it was taken with a mobile phone camera. You have to retake them.”
Ryan’s jaw dropped “Are you fucking kidding me.”
Mr Oats frowned. Or glowered really like someone had punched wrecked his car or something, “No I am not. And I believe a detention is in question. For this behaviour.”
A detention? Really? I met Luke’s eyes of Ryan’s head and he looked about as shocked as I felt. Also like he was going to murder the man. I totally didn’t blame him.
“No I won’t do it.” Ryan aid firmly. Standing up.
“You will.” Mr Oats glared at him. Like that would convince Ryan.
“I won’t.” He snapped before stomping out of the class room, bumping into Mr Oats in the process and shutting the door.
“Oh he looked upset.” I said to Luke as Mr. Oats stared after him.
“You think.” Luke cocked an eyebrow, “That guy is way out of line.”
“Yea but he’s defiantly going to get a detention now.” I pointed out sitting up properly in my chair and stretching out.
“Well he deserves it for walking out.” He said quietly as Mr. Oats left the class trying to find him. Or murder him one of the time.
“Oh you would have to, don’t even lie.” I scoffed. At his skeptical look I rolled my eyes and stood up, “Remember that one relief teacher from year nine?” He totally knew what I was talking about, so I smirked, “Yea I was right.” I said heading for the door.
“Where exactly are you going?” He asked me.
“To find Ryan and make sure he doesn’t do something stupid.” I told him because like duh.
“You’re going to get in trouble for leaving.” He grumped. Always the optimist.
“No one else is in the class I’ll be fine.” I said before throwing a wink at him over my shoulder as I left, “Besides I’ll be back before the end of the period. I’ll be fine.”
Finally. Only like 4 days late and crap quality. My question is, do you think this story is moving to slowly? Do you want me to speed it up and just get to the point or do you like the current speed. Pretty please let me know. Like I will do you a favour and everything I’m just really insecure about this. That’s all.
