The Spring 2013 collections already have some standout trends emerging. Ultra-modern takes on the crop top appeared at the Richard Chai runway show. What makes them more Blade Runner than beach bunny are the sheer underlays and the racer-front cut. Paired with ankle-cuff sandals that almost look like the designer took a laser cutter to a pair of ankle boots to prep them for warm-weather wear, these crop tops looked tough and sci-fi, not coy. The BCBG collection showed sheer overlays as well, but with bolder straps, more of a Fifth Element vibe. The harness-strap look criss-crossed other runways as well. BCBG was one of many houses to show fabrics imprinted with techno-Rorschach patterns.
