these earrings are woven with bronzite gemstone beads and rainbow cal silica beads (see description below). the bronzite brings a gold shimmer to complement the colorful rainbow cal silcia beads. the earwires are gold tone, surgical steel. these earrings are the perfect accessory for summer! tribal earrings measure 2.25" in length and 1" wide The dealer we purchased these strands from labeled them as Fordite, a marvelous material made from hundreds of layers of oven baked automotive paint. Upon consulting an expert Fordite dealer, we discovered we had been duped and these beads were actually Rainbow Cal silica. “Sounds pretty” we said, but what the heck is it? One theory is that it’s a man made mixture of various minerals and stone fragments held together with resin, which is then cut to shape and polished to a high shine. Another theory is that it’s a naturally occurring material mined in Chihuahua Mexico discovered in seams of volcanic rhyolite. There are also rumors of a spectacular deposit of natural cal silica in China. Whatever these beauties are, we love creating these colorful pieces.
