One of my goals in the new year is to take better care of myself, both in my personal and business life. As a creative entrepreneur, it's super easy to spend all of your time and energy working on your business that your health falls to the wayside. I'm guilty, for sure! Today, I’m sharing several healthy habits I’m striving for. As you read, I encourage you to think about what you can begin to carry out in your day-to-day. 1. Stay hydrated. This is the easiest habit you can get started on right away. Drinking plenty of water has tons of benefits like controlling headaches, improving your skin and keeping you energized. One of my latest goals is to drink at least 12 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Ever since I started doing this, I noticed increased stamina and ability to focus on my business. Amazing what a little water can do! To keep me on track, I downloaded the free Daily Water app. You can tally the number of glasses you drink each day, and the app icon has a static notification to remind you where you’re at with your daily goal. 2. Eat healthy. I’m sure you’ve heard of this one before! Weight loss and healthy eating is one of the biggest industries out there. There are new diets popping up daily. It’s hard to keep up with them all! Another goal of mine this year was to schedule an appointment with a nutritionist to help me get into a habit of eating healthy. By following the nutritionist’s meal plan recommendations, I’ve managed to lose three pounds in two weeks! I’ll be following up monthly to make sure I’m staying on the right track. The best part of it all is that my visits are free, thanks to my incredible insurance plan! Much like staying hydrated, eating healthy has many benefits like reducing stress, increasing productivity and helping you live longer. 3. Establish an exercise routine. This is a tough one for me! I really despise any sort of physical activity, but I’m realizing this is a necessity if I truly want to live a healthier girlboss lifestyle. I sit behind a computer for the better part of the day, which means I don’t get to moving around a lot. I’m making it a goal to start developing a routine next week. (If I write it here, it will happen. Hold me accountable!) I’m going to start by waking up earlier in the morning to get a yoga DVD in. (Yoga is easy enough, right?!) My hope is that if I start early enough in the day, I won’t be able to make any excuses. 4. Get quality sleep. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the pursuit of owning my own business is that sleep should be NUMERO UNO on the priority list. Not only will you be cranky, but lack of sleep paired with an extreme amount of stress can lead to psychological issues. I might have learned this through my own brush with psychosis, which if you aren’t familiar is basically a spell of hallucinations and crazed delusions. Definitely not a fun experience, and I don’t recommend anyone ignore sleep long enough to experience it. Since then, I have learned to give myself a strict bedtime to ensure I get in some quality z’s. 5. Invest in education. This is a fun habit to keep! I firmly believe that you should never stop learning, especially if you own a business. Even more so if you own an online business, because the internet continues to rapidly evolve. I like to invest in e-courses, webinars and conferences relevant to my industry in order to stay on top of my game. If you’re like me and are a solopreneur, it can get pretty lonesome working by yourself. Conferences have been helpful in order to get me out and about and meet fellow creatives. Some of the people I've met have even turned into clients and lifelong friends! Hello, return on investment! A couple of great FREE meet up events to check out are your local Rising Tide Society’s Tuesdays Together and Creative Mornings chapter for monthly events. Creative Mornings even has free coffee and breakfast food! These are only several examples of things you can do to stay on your A-game as a girlboss. What healthy habits do you like to keep? Which new habits are you going to implement this yea
