  • 100 Years of Fashion Illustration (PB)
    momastore.org
By Cally Blackman. A visual feast of 400 dazzling images, this is a comprehensive survey of the genre over the last century. The book also offers an overview of the development of fashion, as seen through the eyes of the greatest illustrators of the day. Early in the century fashion illustration reflected new, liberating currents in art and culture, such as the exoticism of the Ballets Russes, while the postwar period saw inspiration from the great Parisian couturiers. After the dominance of the celebrity fashion photographer in the '60s, a new generation of illustrators emerged, embracing the medium of the computer, while many returned to more traditional techniques.
  • Young Romantics by Chelsea Millunchick

Australian photographer, make up artist and blogger Chelsea Millunchick has just shot her first Ben Trovato Exclusive, called Young Romantics. The story that was shot at a beach in Half Moon Bay in California features models Brendon Beck and Nikki Winge with City Models San Francisco, who were styled by Ashley Farnaz, had hair done by Jenelle Oldham, and make up by Chelsea herself. Chelsea says this about the story: "- This story is about young romantics, and that feeling you get when you first fall in love. It's that special moment when two lovers first share this secret together and they feel as if they are the only two people alive in the world. It's a wonderful sense of freedom and invincibility. Love is full of happy, quiet and intimate moments and it was important for me to capture all of these emotions. To emphasize the lover's seclusion, we shot at a wonderful deserted beach in Half Moon Bay, California. We worked as an amazing team who understood and appreciated the concept so it was carried out quite beautifully." She's currently based out of San Francisco, and has had her work featured in publications such as VECU magazine and Cellardoor magazine, before today making her debut on Ben Trovato. Greatly inspired by nature and the timeless beauty of women, she loves to photograph girls in a more natural and genuine state: "- It's so the viewer can feel an authentic connection with the model. There is something magical about the elegance and vulnerability of a woman, and I like to capture those more intimate moments that inspire a story." Chelsea is a make up artist by trade, and has been working with fashion photographers for the past 5 years: "- Working alongside talented photographers inspired me to become part of the bigger picture and I felt the need to create my own images and concepts. Then about 8 months ago, I started to photograph models and I absolutely love it." • Photography by Beck Rocchi

Beck Rocchi inherited her love for photography from her dad, after having showed her how to use his Nikon when she was 13: "- Yeah, and it simply grew from there. He was such a gifted and passionate photographer, and I believe I would never have found it without him. He used to photograph my mum, so beautifully. After that I was always the girl with the camera in her bag. As the years went on and technology advanced it went from a small film camera, to a small digital, to a big digital SLR. I never studied it - but I think that is what makes my style a little different. Its all about how you see the world - and that is in your mind and your heart." After growing up in Melbourne, Beck is now based out of beautiful Byron Bay, surely an inspirational location. Other sources of inspiration are beauty, color, light, symmetry, movement, reflections, details, mistakes, and of course life: "- But most of all the power of capturing moments in time that will stay frozen forever." Her work hasn't been published in any publications yet, but something tells us it's not far away. Her plan for the future are to embrace, grow and develop her photography, writing, and her mind. Of other things: " - Travel and documentary photography has always been the thing that fires me up, that stirs me deeply and gets me excited. I love throwing myself into a foreign environment - among new visuals, strange customs and unknown places. I feed off new ideas and challenges which means I get restless easily in familiar environments of mundane routine. It is an exciting ever-changing pathway for me to continue on!" Here's some of her work: More pictures inside the post.
