Ulysses is afolk hero sung by the bards. It is the ultimate traveling hero, whose adventuresremembered by oral translation. He is the son of Laertes, king of Ithaca, an island separated by aStraits of Cephalonia. In the youth of Ulysses, when Laertes still reigns in Ithaca,Eurytus visit them, an accomplished archer and has the most powerful arc on theland, gift of Apollo, the sun's heat melted and forged into the waters of the seas. Eurytusgives the bow to Odysseus, since he has not found another boy who is strong enough tohandle it. Odysseus is married to Penelope and have one son: Telemachus. At first Ulyssesrefused to go to the Trojan War feigning madness in their fields planting salt, but the Greeksplaced his son Telemachus in front of the plow and Odysseus was forced to admit his ruse and jointhe Greeks. In the Trojan War, Ulysses more involved in diplomatic activities inacts of war. Troy destroyed, shipped to Ithaca and then began his great adventure,long journey of ten years, subject of the Odyssey.
