"Hey Cat, you coming to Stef's party tomorrow?" Danny asked me as we walked home from school.
"Depends. Do I have to dress up?" I asked, clutching my school books tightly.
"Well duh! It's Halloween..." He said stating the obvious.
"Ugh fine. I know you'll drag me anyway." I groaned.
"Well, don't get too upset, George will be there" He smiled, winking.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" I shrieked as my hazel eyes widened.
"It's a bit obvious you like him" He teased.
"How?" I asked, frowning.
"I'm your best friend. I can tell these things" He stated.
"Okay. But don't tell anyone" I ordered.
"Only if you talk to him" He smirked.
"Talk to hi-- Danny are you crazy? No, no and no!" I sped ahead. I guess that was my problem; being super shy.
Danny caught up to me "Fine. Don't talk to him. But you're still coming to the party, right?" He asked
"Yeah" I said, sighing.
"Cool. It's at eight, I'll pick you up round half seven"
The next day, I got changed into my Halloween costume. I was dressed up as a vampire - wearing a a jet black clock, an old fashioned knee length dress and fake vampire teeth. I painted my lips blood red, just to finished off the look.
The door bell rang and I looked at the time. 7:50. How predictable of Danny to be late. I jogged downstairs, ready for the spooky party.
I opened the door to a monkey. Well, Danny in a monkey outfit. His face was covered by a chocolate brown monkey mask.
"I thought you were coming as a zombie..." I questioned as Danny took off his mask.
"Changed my mind. You look deadly" He grinned.
"I'll take that as a compliment" I laughed.
"It was" He said, confused.
"Let's just go, yeah?" I quickly shut the door and walked side by side with Danny to his car.
The party was insane. Stef had gone all out on the Halloween decor and her house could have easily been mistaken for something out of a horror film. The living room was full of people dressed up in all kinds of characters. I could hardly recognise anyone. The music was booming loudly and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I looked around for George. There was no sign of him. I felt thirsty, so I made my way to the large food and drink table for a drink. I noticed Danny in his monkey costume at the table.
"Hey Danny" I said, smiling as I poured myself a drink.
He just nodded.
"I don't see George anywhere. He is here right? Ohmigod what if he's with someone?"
Danny didn't reply.
"You're right! If I like him, then I should talk to him! Okay, thanks Danny" I replied as I quickly fled from the table.
I took off my monkey mask. Wow, did Catrina just tell me that she likes me? Who's this 'Danny' she thought she was talking too? To be honest, I was kind of relieved she told me, well 'Danny'. I liked her but I was too shy to ever talk to her. Now, I just knew I had to talk to her. I scanned the room for her in her vampire costume, but she was nowhere to be seen. I spotted a boy wearing the same costume as me.
"Danny?" I asked cautiously.
"Yes?" He said, his voice, sounding muffled because of the mask.
"Do you know where I can find Catrina?" I asked eagerly.
"Yeah, she went outside, into the garden" He replied.
"Okay, thanks" And with that I hurried to the garden.
I cheered in delight. My plan had worked! It was easy: wear the same costume as George, keep away from Cat until she bumps into 'Danny' who is really George. The rest, was completely up to Cat. But I knew she would spill the beans about liking George.
I made my way to the garden. The full moon was out. The dark grey sky complimented the Halloween spirit.
"Catrina?" I asked. Her back was to me as she stared up at the night sky.
She turned around and I noticed the spark in her eye as she saw me. He cheek went a perfect shade of red.
"So, a little monkey tells me you like me" I grinned cheekily.
