2012 is another year of k pop group debuts; and so far boy groups like JJ Project, EXO, B.A.P or NU'EST (and more) proved how strong rookies this year are.
But what about girls??
Let's look at girl groups rookies who have debuted this year!
First month of this year was the debut of SPICA which so far is one of the best girl groups rookies of this year;
Before their official debut Spica released song 'Potently' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqMvrDJc7LQ) to officially debut later with hit song 'Russian Roulette' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrIAoajRIUY)
Other girl groups that debuted in January:
LAY.T - Come Catch Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkwHiXq3tLU&feature=related)
Six Bomb - Chiki Chiki Bomb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxG06TGJ0O4)
Only Febuary debut is EXID and their song Whoz That Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enrUVf_JTz8) - maybe it's just a Blackjack thing but the group trying to look badass and singing such song don't impress me; the song is to forgettable for the rookie, but the video is somehow worth watching - for Lee Soo-Hyuk :)
March is the month of NU'EST and BTOB's debut and all girl groups who debuted in that month stayed in the shadow of those boy groups.
BT-Swing (debut song Rescue 101 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYiRlInpg0s) tried to attract listeners with pretty faces, but the popularity of ulzzang Kim Seul Mi is apparently not enough as the group disappointed with their song, choreography and music video.
Whoever likes Park Jung Min's 'Not Alone' will find VIVID debut song 'GOTCHA' disturbingly similar...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGX1UEwUojg
Have any of you heard of Pandora's Shupashupa? No? I also missed their debut.
April wasn't good time to debut because it was time when EXO released their 'Mama'
but we have two girl groups who released debut songs in that month.
LXIA with their song 'Sexy Brown' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWGWwffV6LA) didn't gain much recognition - we can blame it on lack of promotion but let's be honest I don't see any potential in them.
Does other April debut - Ruby with 'Get Down' sounds better to you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1JmsUa6xrc
May finally brought some interesting girl groups;
Gangkiz wasn't really noticed with their Honey Honey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYqMq_zeMTg&feature=relmfu) but in my opinion that's quite good debut song: it's catchy even if it sound like a song T-ara could release.
Hello Venus with 'Venus' gained positive reaction from kpop fans; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU3Ug5pw7sw
Honestly it's not my fave song but I see potential in girls to grow, and Lime with her mint hair and vocal/rap skills can easily become favourite one.
I completely ignored She'z and their 'My Way' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPJRWq2Lw8g) during music shows because of..their weird stripped outfits; in fact their song is really pleasurable to ear!
Last group to debut in May was Sunny Days with 'Take Away' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE3TKgr6KkM
JUNE - no girl groups debuts
Glam and their Party (XXO) is interesting song with nice MV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T62b-FxzxA ; maybe not enough catchy for rookie but in this case this is what makes me like the girls more (good song over catchy beats)
I'm not a fan of Crayon Pop - I simply don't need another Girl's Day - but there is many people who enjoy their debut song Bing Bing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d70s2CdKIo
Many expected Tahiti to be amazing - but their debut song 'Tonight' disappoints. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC5YY3Wxkr8
A.O.A [Ace of Angels] started very good: angels is actually great concept and the girls are from FNC Music - the same company as F.T Island and C.N Blue. Both song 'Elvis' and the MV are very good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5KOIrBcwj8
New month stared with debut of hip hop group D-Unit; their debut track I’m Missin’ You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQgjOLPDTyI&feature=player_embedded) was written by Kush [YG Family fans know this producer]
What disappoints the most with the group is actually lack of hip hop vibe in their songs; and let's be completely honest - don't you think of 2NE1 watching the MV? And the song itself could be - definitely not the title - but b side track of 2NE1. The song is just okay for me; nothing special really, but I see potential in girls; and they don't have 7-9 members, so it's another positive point:)
So what are your opinions about 2012 girl group rookies??
