  • Nanimarquina Global Warming Rug
    hivemodern.com
Design Nel Colectivo. 100% New Zealand wool + felt (bear), hand tufted. Handmade by Nanimarquina. Rugs have traditionally been tools to convey messages from every culture, artistic and practical means for civilizations to express themselves. This collection acts as a platform for communication, embodying its own clear message from our times. The Mexican Nel Collective discovered the possibility of realising a non-conventional project to spread a direct message, an invitation to reflect about the current world and its state of emergency. The name says it all: global warming, represented in the solitude of one small polar bear in three dimensions, unprotected and adrift on a block of ice, in the middle of an immense sea. It is an offering of hope, the hope for a better future, a world that is possible. Wool from New Zealand sheep is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable fiber. This beautiful wool is hypoallergenic, it is easy to care for, ages well and holds its color. It also minimized noise levels, while it creates a relaxing and comfortable environment. Hand tufting is a manual weaving process that uses a pistol-shaped contraption. The rug's design is made over a taut cotton fabric and weaved with a tufting gun, which pushes and cuts sections of wool thread that are fastened to the base with a layer of latex. Nanimarquina was founded in 1987 focusing on offering rugs to a world that is interested in creativity, quality and innovation. Today, Nanimarquina is one of the leading companies in the contemporary rugs sector. Under the premise of "reuse, reduce, recycle", they pay the utmost attention to caring for and preserving the environment that surrounds us. All of their rugs are hand made in countries with great traditions of craftsmanship. Nanimarquina also guarantees that no child labor is used in the manufacturing of their rugs. They also collaborate actively with organizations to further improve standards of living for those directly involved in the process of producing their rugs. The Global Warming rug is handmade & hand tufted using 100% New Zealand wool. Custom sizes available on request. small: 4'7"' w | 6'7" L | wool pile height: 15-20mm | total height: 21-26mm. medium: 6'7"' w | 9'10" L | wool pile height: 15-20mm | total height: 21-26mm.
  • Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk Raleigh Sofa in Leather
    dwr.com
Raleigh (2009) is a comfortable, modern collection that draws from mid-century Danish design. Wrapping around the back of this Sofa is a solid walnut frame (be sure to click on Additional Views to see it) that brings visual lightness and satisfying aesthetic tension to the design. There's also a very functional reason for the way that this frame triangulates to the back of the Sofa. Namely, that it permits a gracefully canted and ergonomic seatback while still solidly supporting you as you relax and unwind. DWR Design Studio chose to work with Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk on this project because of the importance they place on people – how they move, interact, live, and most of all, sit. Made in U.S.A. Best of Year! The Raleigh Collection received Interior Design magazine's top honor for 2010 in the residential lounge category. The angled, high back comfortably supports your upper body. Visible from the side and back, this Sofa is cradled in a solid walnut frame. Down-blend filled back cushions have removable covers for cleaning.

  • Nanimarquina Formosa Rug
    hivemodern.com
Design Michael Lin. 100% New Zealand wool, hand knotted. Handmade by Nanimarquina. Created by the versatile and authentic artist Michael Lin, Formosa evokes the name 16th-century Portuguese sailors gave to the island of Taiwan. The rug's delicate and attractive style combines Pop aesthetics with Taiwanese pictorial tradition. Following this tradition, it took three years of meticulous work to reproduce the subtle use of color on wool that is characteristic of Lin, who specializes in transforming large, cold and bland spaces into luminous organic fields of intense shades. The type of knot used to manufacture this rug makes it 40% denser than other hand knotted rugs, and consequently, it has more weight and better quality. Pure harmony, in red or blue. The weaving technique used in this collection is the vertical handloom technique. The thread is tightly fastened to the warp by a knot. The type and thickness of the knot differentiate the various kinds of hand-knotted rugs; the greater the number of knots, the greater the definition, durability and value of the rug. This technique allows for the creation of highly-detailed patterns. Wool from New Zealand sheep is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable fiber. This beautiful wool is hypoallergenic, it is easy to care for, ages well and holds its color. It also minimized noise levels, while it creates a relaxing and comfortable environment.
