  • Artifort Orange Slice Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1960. Beech shells, upholstery, steel. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. Designed in 1960, the Orange Slice is a timeless icon that looks as fresh and inspired today as it did when it was first created. Anyone who sees several Slice chairs together cannot fail to be touched by the playfulness fo the composition. From different visual angles, the Orange Slice shows several stages of 'curl up'. In fact, the chair seems to change shape every time you look at it. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances. Low: 31.5" w | 33" d | 27.6" h | seat: 16.1" h. High: 31.5" w | 33" d | 31.5" h | seat: 17.7" h. Base is offered in chrome or powder-coat. • Flos Bibliotheque Nationale Floor Lamp
    hivemodern.com
Design Philippe Starck, 2007. Aluminum, plastic & fabric. Made in Italy by Flos. "A magic bookcase where the books take flight towards the light" -Phillipe Starck. Only a visionary mind like Philippe Starck's could imagine a floor lamp like Biblioteque Nationale. The French designer, like a contemporary wizard with the power to animate objects, imagines a fairy tale bookcase where the books pirouette and take flight towards the light. This lamp, without sacrificing formal rigor and simplicity, which are constant features in Starck's work, perfectly expresses the tastes and needs of everyday lives comprising multi-function, dynamic objects. Starck created small shelves on the main stem for books and other articles. He has also extended its functions with a USB connector to recharge popular smartphones. Having it near us facilitates our daily habits of reading, making telephone calls or relaxing. A surreal addition to settings, Bibliotheque Nationale. Seems to fulfill our simplest but most fundamental desires, with that magic that is often a feature of Starck's creations. As one of the best-known contemporary designers in the world, Philippe Starck has placed honesty and integrity at the core of his designs producing quality products with longevity & durability. He seems to understand, better than others our dreams, our desires, our needs, and our responsibility to the future, as well as the overriding need to respect his fellow citizens by making his work a political and civic act. Bibliotheque Nationale floor lamp offers diffused light and features a chrome-plated base & stem with a plastic or cloth shade and moveable steel shelves. Resistive dimmer wired on cord for 0-100% light adjustment. 59" H | shade: 15.75" w | cord: 79" L. Requires 1x100W BT-15 Medium Frosted Halogen bulb.

  • Artifort Tulip Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1965. Upholstery, polished swivel base, chrome. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the simple Tulip spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time. The Tulip is stately with a high back, which is an eminently comfortable armchair. With its matching footstool, it makes a strong and yet exceptionally comfortable combination. Restored to its place of honor - the Tulip chair has been reintroduced with its original cross-base. Having once fallen from favor due to the arrival of the swivelling disk base, it can now be admired in all its original glory. The polished stainless steel metal-strip cross-base looks lighter and airier than the disk and gives the Tulip an elegant twist. 35" W | 32" d | 37" h | seat: 15" h. Matching ottoman also available.
