  • Carl Hansen & Son Ch33 Dining Chair With Upholstered Seat
    hivemodern.com
Design Hans Wegner, 1957. Solid wood, veneer, cold foam, upholstery. Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son. The CH33 dining chair expresses many typical aspects of Hans J. Wegner's best designs. It is a very light, graceful chair that functions as a dining chair or as a sculptural addition to almost any room. It offers great comfort and stability as a classic chair that references the simple lines of the 50s and 60s. Every part of the Ch33 chair employs rounded, organic forms. The tapered legs and cross pieces are thickest where they need to support load-bearing joints, and gracefully become more slender as the design allows. The slightly splayed legs make for a very robust construction and visually signal the light chair's structural stability. The joints connecting the back legs to the backrest are visible classic examples of Hans J. Wegner's penchant for honest design that highlights good craftsmanship. The CH33 seat and backrest are made from pressure-formed hardwood laminate. It comes in an all-wood version, or with upholstered seat in your choice of fabric or leather. Note: the buttons on the seat & back are always the same wood as the frame. 29.1" h | 18.9" d | 21.7" w | seat: 17.3" h. Quick-ship versions: - oak/walnut back - oiled - thor 301 seat leather.

Design Eero Saarinen, 1957. Five-star steel base. polyurethane shell, upholstery. Made in USA by Knoll. In his groundbreaking collection of 1957, Eero Saarinen transformed executive seating into a fluid, sculptural form. Recognizing the importance of user comfort, Saarinen became the first to construct a chair shell from fiberglass, a pliable material that flexes in response to body weight. The chair is available with and without arms, and features metal or wood legs, or a swivel base. The armless chair with a plastic back, ideal for café applicatons, is a recent reintroduction. Son of the celebrated architect Eliel Saarinen, Eero was classically trained in sculpture and architecture. His collaboration with Charles Eames in 1937 led to the creation of the Organic Armchair, made from plywood and foam rubber, the first three-dimensionally shaped bucket armchair. Saarinen continued to develop this theme in the years that followed with great designs, all for Knoll. Through the 1960s and further through to the 1970s and 80s - the 'The Kastrup Chair' has been part of the interior of international airports, public offices, hotels and private homes in different configurations. Wegner once remarked: "First and foremost a chair must be comfortable and it must be cared for by the finest craftsmen and not least a chair must also be shaped well." These are simple characteristics, which Hans J. Wegner has always adhered to. The structure of the 'The Kastrup Chair' is based on a blind frame in solid beech wood with legs in stainless steel.
