The Era Lounge Chair is available in both a high and low version. The legs are available in oak, walnut, black lacquered steel or chrome, as well a chrome frame for the rocking chair. A footstool is also available for the Era collection, allowing ample opportunity for comfortable relaxation and rest for the feet. Choose between two lovely wool textiles with a vivid feel and beautiful structures, or soft, durable leather in a vast number of colors. Simon Legald says: ”It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair.” Priced with Gabriel Breeze Fusion upholstery-other materials available.

  • Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair in Basel Fabric
    dwr.com
Form follows function, and nowhere is that more apparent than in a sculpted chair that anticipates the curves of the human body. Arne Jacobsen designed the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for its busy lobby, he created the biomorphic Egg (1958). With this design, Jacobsen embraced newthat allowed him to shape single-piece molded forms with fluid curves. At a time when others were experimenting with bent tubular steel, he focused on an upholstered shell, believing a solution existed that would still be true to modern ideals. Indeed, he met that goal. Set on a rotating base, the Egg Chair allows its occupant to swivel toward a conversation or away from others if privacy is desired, and it also tilts back for relaxed lounging. Its Basel upholstery is carefully sewn onto the frame by hand. Architects Herzog & de Meuron designed this special fabric to play with the light and textures found in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. “Inspired by tweed,” say the duo, “which has the rough homespun look and feel one associates with wool, Basel is durable and informal, yet it has class and style.” Egg is finished with piping made from the highest grade of Sorensen leather, and the black and white bases are perfectly matched to the fabric. This is the authentic Egg Chair by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland. This Egg Chair features Basel fabric, Sorensen leather piping and a lacquered base.
  • Oscar Armchair by Matthew Hilton
    shophorne.com
The Oscar armchair strikes a pleasing balance between modernity and tradition, large in size yet light in appearance. The armchair is made from a European hardwood frame, jute webbing and hessian straps and then covered with a mix of materials that includes natural fibers, animal hair and wool. It features large feather cushions that are notable for their depth, the back has a line of sewn in pulls, lending the armchair the appearance of a buttoned back, without the actual buttons. The feet are made from walnut stained beech, with the front two being turned versions. By contrasting long straight lines with delicate natural curves, Mathew Hilton has created a piece that is both reserved and full of humility. The Oscar armchair is a piece perfect for those who like their modernity laced with a little familiarity. Made in the UK. Shown here in Molly 160 Wool and Range Leather. Additional fabrics available upon request.
  • Jean Prouvé Prouvé Cité Armchair
    dwr.com
Favored among collectors, the Cité Armchair (1930) exhibits a certain static dynamism inherent to Jean Prouvé's work with its low build and angled backrest. A resilient fabric sling seat is stretched over the chair's tubular steel frame to produce a hammock effect, following the contours and movement of the body for constant support. Distinctive sheet steel runners serve as the base, giving way to thick leather belt armrests that invite contact with their smooth tactility. The tobacco fabric has a red frame; the black fabric has a matching black frame. One of Prouvé's few designs that he used in his own home, the Cité Armchair is a compelling lounge option for residential and commercial spaces. Reproduced to exacting standards by Vitra. Made in Germany.

  • Vitra - Plywood Group LCW Chair
    connox.com
The LCW Chair was designed for Vitra by the designer couple Charles and Ray Eames as a part of the Plywood Group Collection. LCW stands for "Lounge Chair Wood": LCW is an elegant lounge chair and is made of the best wood. Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with new processes for optimizing the way three-dimensionally moulded plywood fits the contours of the body. The result was the Plywood Group, with its moulded plywood seat, backrest and base. The organic shape and the wood's cosy warmth invite users to sit down and relax. For the production of the Plywood Group are wood layers bent. The thin wood shells from back to seat support the body with lightly bent areas. The single elements are tied up with elastic rubber layers on the base. They give you extra comfort. The meeting with the legendary designer couple Charles and Ray Eames was for Vitra a fundamental meaning: With the production of their designs in 1957 started the history of the manufacturer as a furniture producer. Charles and Ray Eames impressed Vitra a lot. The LCW Chair is also available in different colours and with felt cover. • Stephen Kenn Inheritance Armchair - Black Canvas & Blackened Steel
    shophorne.com
Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece. Black canvas cushion covers, black cotton webbing and leather belts interwoven atop a blackened steel frame. Made in Los Angeles, the collection is inspired by the characteristic principles of Soviet Modernism and bold interpretations of Brutalist Architecture through the simplification of form, receptive angular geometries and functional design.

  • Milo Baughman 1188 Chair in Leather
    dwr.com
The 1188 Chair (1968) was Milo Baughman’s favorite chair and the one with which he chose to furnish the home of business partner and friend Thayer Coggin. Given that the Coggin family could’ve had any dining chair in the company’s inventory, the 1188 is something special indeed. Baughman and Coggin met in 1953 and formed a powerful partnership that lasted for five decades. The North Carolina-based company is still the exclusive manufacturer of Baughman furniture to this day. The designer’s work was included in High Styles: Twentieth Century American Design at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1985. Baughman was inducted into the Furniture Design Hall of Fame in 1987. Made in U.S.A. Natural leather is prized for its unique markings. Scars, scrapes and wrinkles are not defects. For the Ivory/Bronze chair, the bronze finish is created by hand and is not uniform. This is intentional, and the marks of the craftsman are left on the chair to add warmth and character to each piece.
