    shophorne.com
Chiaroscuro is an Italian artistic term used to describe the dramatic effect of contrasting areas of light and dark in artwork to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional forms. The effect of light defines the character of these clocks designed by Josh Owen for Loll Designs. The numbers are engraved into the plastic material. Depending on the time of day and the way in which ambient light activates the face of the clock, the numbers are more or less prominent, underlining the metaphysical nature of time. The mechanical components of Loll Chiaroscuro clocks are not intended for direct moisture contact. If hanging outside place in a covered outdoor area or where the clock is well protected from rain and water.

  • Contemporary Cherry Mantel Clock with Cardinal Tile
    modernartisans.com
A masterful marriage of intricate woodwork and ceramic art! Handcrafted by the Schlabaugh Family of Iowa, the contemporary clock body consists of natural cherry wood accented with walnut legs. The wood is inset with a clay tile featuring a cheerful image of a cardinal by mid-century modernist artist Charley Harper, known for his stylized interpretation of nature. Measuring 4" x 4", the distinctive tile is handmade in Michigan using traditional techniques. Perfect for a shelf, tabletop, or mantel, the clock stands nearly 12" high with a glass face and quartz movement. Wood details : Each clock is constructed of all-natural hand-polished hardwoods and provided a clear, durable finish to enhance the natural colors of the wood. Stains are not used. - Cherry: Natural cherry wood is native to North America and is a very light (almost maple-like) color when new. Cherry will naturally darken with age to reveal a reddish-brown tint. - Walnut: a hardwood native to the Eastern United States featuring dark brown grains that are beautifully enhanced with age.
