  • Vitra - Miniature Vegetal Chair
    connox.com
The Vegetal is an organically-shaped chair that is meant to look as if it had taken its shape naturally. With that goal in mind and inspired by small trees which American gardeners had fashioned into the shape of seating furniture, the French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec set about designing the Vegetal. Designed for outdoor use, the chair had to be both water-resistant and – for practical purposes – easily stackable. Neither the Bouroullec brothers nor Vitra could have imagined that it would take four years of intense work on both the design and the development of the chair before the ambitious project would finally be realised. The inspiration of natural vegetation is easy to see in the intricate, asymmetrical structure of the branch-like ribs that make up the Vegetal’s seat shell as well as the colour scheme. Made from polyamide and manufactured using injection moulding, the chair is an exploration of the limits of its material and the latest production techniques. The original of the Vegetal Chair was designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2008 and it is produced as 1:1 model by the Vitra AG, Basel/Switzerland, since 2008. The here offered miniature by Vitra (scale 1:6) consists of dyed thorough polyamide and available in different colours.

Simple but robust and classic in design, the Bistro furniture has everything what it takes to look impressively in the open. The folding chair made of metal seems as brilliant and attractive as it did by the time of its introduction. The folding chair from the Bistro collection by Fermob is made of anti-corrosion treated, painted and galvanized iron in the best quality. Protection glides protect the floor, the UV-resistant powder coating protects the look of the metal Bistro chair, which is also available in many other colours.

The Landi Chair from Hans Coray is a masterpiece, which is still trend-setting today. The classic piece is produced again by Vitra, 75 years after its first presentation on a Swiss exposition in 1939. The Landi Chair dates back to design’s origins. Hans Coray, a Swiss humanist and artist, designed the aluminium chair as official seat for the outside of the Swiss Exposition of 1939. The graduated Romanist and auto-didactic among furniture designers made a chair, which was weatherproof and as weightless as comfortable. It is still trend-setting because of the efficient use of materials and the functional elegance. As a classic piece of modernity, the Vitra Landi Chair reached a fix place in design’s history and in numerous international design museums. Vitra Landi Chair: A pioneer’s achievement of modernity The Landi Chair uses the technical advantages of aluminium processing as no other model of that time does. The austere and elegant design is adapted to the industrial production and processing of the material and it entered the history as masterpiece of modernity. The sear of the Vitra Landi Chair doesn’t only follow the contour of the sitting person, but it is also shaped in its cross direction, unlike the plywood seats of Alvar Aalto. A three-dimension formed seat, whose comfort is still raised by the flexibility of the aluminium sheet, emerged this way for the first time. The seat has 91 punched holes, which give the Landi Chair its characteristic look; they reduce the weight of the chair and also let rain water drain. Hans Coray used aluminium in a different way for the base of the Landi Chair: As extruded section, which is weightless and also stable because of the c-like cross section. The bent aluminium profiles form a pair of legs with armrest and – connected by two thin tubes – each one and they are the base together. The punched seat of the Vitra Landi Chair floats on this base only supported at four points. The Landi Chair therewith introduced a constructive principle, which was systematized and perfected by Charles and Ray Eames some years later and which is indispensable in furniture design today: The seat and backrest bowl which rests in a self-carrying base. The weatherproof Landi Chair is produced industrially according to the original design of 1939 today, and it is vertically stackable. The matt anodized surface of the material offers the characteristic, silver-shimmering presence to this classic piece by Vitra.

  • Vitra - Miniature Landi Chair
    connox.com
The Landi Chair was originally designed for the Swiss regional exhibition (commonly known as the 'Landi') of 1939. Coray's design meets the requirements of an outdoor chair: It is light, comfortable, weather-proof and can be stacked vertically – it is easy to transport and store and can be used in a wide open space. The choice of material for the Landi Chair was aluminium, one of the most important Swiss exports in the 1930s. The curved, slightly elastic seat-pan consists of sheet aluminium, and the lower frame and armrests are made of aluminium sections. The seat-pan acquires its shape in several processing stages in a drawing press. The surface is anodized, hardening the aluminium and protecting against corrosion. The characteristic perforation gave the chair visual and physical lightness in addition to enhanced rigidity. Originally designed as a weather-resistant outdoor chair, this design classic has long been popular in indoor environments too. The original of the Landi Chair was designed by Hans Coray in 1938 and it is produced as 1:1 model by the Westermann AG, Aarau/Switzerland since 2006. The here offered miniature by Vitra (scale 1:6) consists of aluminium sheet and synthetic pads.
