With its soft seat and backrest upholstery, as well as the high, flexible side and back panels, Alcove Sofa creates the frame for a comfy, safe and secure world, a place for relaxed withdrawal from the hustle and bustle of life. As two- or three-seaters, the Alcove Sofa fits interiors of different sizes. Moreover, the Alcove Love Seat offers the advantages of the Alcove Sofa but for a smaller footprint. Vitra - Marshmallow Sofa
The Marshmallow Sofa by George Nelson can be considered as one of the first pop art designs of the furniture design. With the design of 1956 Nelson turned the traditional sofainto a three-dimensional report made of soft, colourful cushions. Every single cushion of seat and back rest lay symmetrical, like a waffle form, to the opposite to each other. It is supported by a simple steel structure. The, in the past, new system of the additive construction enables - not like usual sofas - a big colour, and form selection. But it had the consequence, that the production was really expensive because they were hand made. Besides that, because of its unusual design, the sofa did not fit into the contemporary interiors. For this reason, the production of the Marshmallow Sofa had to be closed in 1965. To the Marshmallow Sofa is also a extension element obtainable. Those come with six single cushions and can be put between two sofas, and it is expandable. More details: Design: George Nelson. Material: 18 cushions in vinyl red, orange, green, purple and blue, frame: square tube, black. Measurements: 820 x 1313 x 805 mm.

    Vitra Polder Sofa
Design Hella Jongerius, 2005. Wooden frame, upholstery, natural buttons. Made in Germany by Vitra. With the quiet irony typical for her work, Hella Jongerius named her new sofa for Vitra, Polder. In Holland, Polder refers to the artificial land reclaimed from the sea by means of dykes and drainage canals. The body of the Polder sofa is just as low-lying, just as flat, and has just as much emphasis on the horizontal as does the Dutch landscape. For it, Hella Jongerius chose five carefully selected combinations of colors and fabric qualities, accentuating them with high-tech threads and large buttons. This play with colours and textures underscores the asymmetry of the piece, and together with the large buttons decorating the cushions are unmistakable trademarks of the Polder Sofa. Made of natural materials like bone and mother of pearl, the buttons are sewn to the cushions with bold broad cross stitches. Through the selection of the threads, Hella Jongerius creates a contrast of colours that further enhances the distinctiveness of this design feature. The Polder sofa is available in your choice of two sizes and fabric colors. You can also pick the postition of the armrest. When facing the sofa the armrest can be placed on the left or the right side. XS: 89" L | 30.75" h | 39.25" d | seat: 16" h. XL: 115.25" L | 30.75" h | 39.25" d |seat: 16" h.

    Vitra - Miniature Bocca Sofa
The use of cold-expanded polyurethane makes traditional methods of constructing furniture redundant. One series of sculptural furniture objects stands out amongst the furniture designs of the »Studio 65« group, since it makes radical use of the freedom of design allowed by this new material. And the style of this furniture demonstrates characteristics originating in the pictorial arts of the 1960s: the softening of a Claes Oldenburg, the naive stylization to be found in comics and commercial art, or the giant, intoxicated dimensions assumed by 1960s objects. Alongside an armchair in the shape of a pillared Greek temple and a Babylonian shrine as a playsystem for children, Studio 65's contribution to the »radical design« included a sofa in the shape of a woman's mouth. The subtitle Studio 65 gave to its Sofa Bocca: »alias lips, alias Marylin«, is a reference to the inspiration for this design and its symbolism. Salvador Dalí, to whom the idea for a design of this kind has been attributed, was quoted by Studio 65 in this context as follows: »Objects with a symbolic function leave no room for formal considerations. They are characterized only by each individual's idea of love and are above any notions of shape.« The original of the Bocca Sofa was designed by Studio 65 in 1970 and it is produced as 1:1 model by Gufram, Barolo/Italy, since 1972. The here offered miniature by Vitra (scale 1:6) consists of polyurethane foam and fabrics.

George Nelson is one of the most influential personalities in U.S. design after 1945. As of 1946 he was for many years head of the Design Department at the Herman Miller company, on whose behalf he engaged designers hardly known at the time, such as Charles Eames , Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Girard. And he was also inspired by other areas of culture: along with his work as an architect, he concerned himself with ongoing sociological and artistic themes. Nelson’s ”Marshmallow”-sofa must be considered one of the earliest "Pop Art" furniture designs: the transformation of a traditional sofa into a threedimensional structure made of soft, colored cushioning. The seat and back are supported by a steel construction and the unit has the shape of an axially symmetrical folded-out waffle. The original of the Marshmallow Sofa was designed by George Nelson in 1956 and it is produced as 1:1 model by the Herman Miller Furniture Company, Zeeland/Michigan/USA and the Vitra International AG, Basel/Switzerland since 1956. The here offered miniature by Vitra (scale 1:6) consists of lacquered steel tube, aluminium and leather cushions.

Design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2006. Chromed steel, metal frame, fiberglass-reinforced plastic panels, polyurethane, polyester, wool. Made in Germany by Vitra. A sofa can go beyond being merely a piece of furniture and become a room of its own within a room - this was the idea that prompted Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to design the Alcove Sofa. With its unusually soft seat and backrest upholstery, as well as the high, flexible side and back panels, Alcove Sofa creates the frame for a comfy, safe and secure world, a place for relaxed withdrawal from the hustle and bustle of life: Two people can stretch out and sit opposite each other, leaning leisurely back against the side walls, and if required the sofa also provide sufficient space for a third person. Alcove Sofa combines the contrasting qualities of a comfortable secluded relaxation area with an open invitation to enter and sit down. The two brothers, Ronan and Erwan, have been working together since 1999. Their collaboration is a constant dialogue, nourished by their single identities and strived towards a common goal. Today, the Bouroullec brothers work with numerous manufacturers such as Vitra, Cappellini, Issey Miyake, Magis, Ligne Roset, Habitat and the Kréo Gallery. They were named "Creator of the Year" in 2002, elected "designer of the year" in 2003 and have won multiple other awards. Their creations have been exhibited in many collective or solo exhibitions and are part of some permanent museum collections around the world. The Alcove sofa includes two matching backrest cusions. Optional set of 2 armrest & 2 small backrest cushions also available. 37" H | 33" d | 93.25" L.
