August 8th – Slip on your sexiest bikinis and go to Halcyon beach today for some fun. There’s going to be plenty of food, booze, and sun…and once the sun goes down, there’s going to be a bonfire. Cuddle up with your sweetie or go skinny dipping with your friends – it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re too drunk to remember what you did tomorrow morning ;)
Today we were going to Halcyon Beach. I was looking forward to spending some time with everyone. Sure I wouldn’t be drinking, but you didn’t have to drink to have a good time. I wished that more people realized that.
I parked my car in the parking lot and got out, grabbing my beach bag. Inside was a book, towel, water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses and an apple. Everything that I needed for a fun day at the beach. I noticed a petite brunette getting out of the car next to me.
“Hello,” I made my way over, smiling. I knew that I recognized her but her name just slipped my mind. “I’m Larraine, but you can call me Rae if you’d like.” I held out my hand and she shook it.
“I’m Dylan,” she smiled back. “Nice to meet you.”
We walked down to the beach together, mostly in silence. I wasn’t sure what kind of small talk to make. “It’s a lovely day out,”
Dylan nodded her head. “It is,” she said. “The water is probably cold, though.”
“It’ll be refreshing,” I said just as we reached a clear spot. I spread my towel out and sat down. Just then, I saw some girls approaching us. I recognized them as Indigo, Rory and Ariel. “Hey girls, what’s up?”
“Not much,” Rory responded. “We were just going to get drinks. We know they’re somewhere around here.” She giggled.
“Anyway,” Ariel continued. “Do you want to come with us?”
I scrunched up my nose. “No thank you. I don’t drink.” They all thought it was just a personal preference. And it was, but they also didn’t know that I was pregnant as well. And I didn’t want them to know, either.
“What about you, Dylan?” Indigo asked.
Dyl looked from me to Indigo and back to me again. “Do you mind if I go with them? I can bring you back a soda or something.”
“No, go ahead! Have fun,” I grinned, waving her off. I didn’t want her to stay just because she felt she had to. I watched them walk off, so I pulled the water bottle and apple out of my bag.
I didn’t mind being alone at all. It didn’t bother me. I didn’t feel awkward or anything like that. Sometimes it was nice just to be all by yourself, to be alone with your thoughts, where nothing could interrupt you.
Unless, of course, it was a person. I looked up to see Maria standing before me. “What /are/ you doing?”
I stared at her, confused. What was I doing? I was eating an apple. What did it look like I was doing? I took a deep breath. No need to get annoyed, Larraine. You dealt with people like this all the time.
“Just hanging out,” I said, trying to keep the conversation light.
She snorted. “Loser,” I heard her mutter under her breath when she walked away.
No matter. I wouldn’t let it bother me. I /couldn’t/ let it bother me. If I let people like Maria get under my skin, then I was becoming someone who I didn’t know.
So I pushed her out of my head and continued on until Dylan came back with two cans of soda, which I gratefully accepted. And we drank our sodas and talked and then Ariel rejoined us with her friend Sebastian and eventually we all went into the water (which /was/ freezing).
And it was a great day. I had to have days like this, fun and carefree. It was the only thing that I relied on to get me by.
Sorry it's so late! Comment 'you can't get under my skin' if you read! Wee I love Larraine she's such a cutie :3 @ingrid @curious-and-young @hollyjane @curious-and-young @vikkirose @mathemmatics
