Ahh, it's that time of year again. Picking out presents, baking Christmas goodies, and spending time with friends and family...But do you know what to wear? Let me be your guide. :)
The first question to ask when putting together a holiday ensemble is how formal the event will be.
Dress nicely, even if the event is casual. Even if you're heading to a casual office event, make a good impression.
I like to mix casual and formal pieces in casual holiday dressing. I like to wear a sequined top with jeans and boots or a striped sweater with a formal skirt.
Semiformal parties are tricky. You could wear a silk top with nice jeans or neutral trousers, but I prefer to just wear a lace or velvet dress with tights and flats.
You could probably wear the same dress to "semiformal" or "formal" party. I believe the difference in the two is merely in the details. Hair, makeup, jewelry...you can't go wrong with a big gold necklace and a great red lip. Most formal events call for heels, but if you're very tall or uncomfortable in heels, an embellished ballet flat or low wedge will do nicely.
Nearly any color will do for a holiday look, but you can't go wrong with gold or silver. A black top or dress could be worn with different accessories to several different looks throughout the holiday season. Red and black or black and gold always look great, but if you're trying to step out of your comfort zone, try wearing emerald green or purple with gold and cobalt blue with black.
Have a merry (and stylish) Christmas!
