☆ Saturday :
Happy Birthday to Evie! That's right, it's Evie's 24th Birthday today! To celebrate, we're spending the afternoon on the upper east side for the perfect shopping spree. And later, Lo's decided to rent out the restaurant on top of the Empire State Building. Enjoy the view, have some cocktails and celebrate Evie's big two-four!
Clutching the brand new, Christian Louboutin bag I had just bought that afternoon, I entered the restaurant on top of the Empire State Building. I was nearly right on time, but it was already packed, filled with the best of the best- most of the head staff at VS, socialites, fellow VS models, and even more. I could already spot a billion people I had never met before, or seen before for that matter. But that was definitely going to change by the end of the night.
"Champagne?" A waiter asks me, a small smile on his handsome face as he gestures his packed tray to me.
"Sure," I smile, grabbing a crystal clear champagne flute, filled to the brim with pink, bubbling alcohol. I take a sip, letting it savor on my tongue. Lately I was limiting myself to the alcohol. I drank a little bit in Mexico (well, I had to! It was Mexico for f*ck's sake!), but since coming back to New York, I hadn't had any alcoholic beverages. Good, right?
Well, partially. I wasn't an alcohol, no, no, no, of course not. But I was a party girl. I loved my liquor, I loved my parties. But this wasn't exactly the type of party I loved, neither was the liquor, but whatever. I'd get my party fix later on in the week, when I was off of work, or something.
"Can I get a picture?" A photographer asks. He's tall, handsome, with lovely eyes and a great smile.
I smirk, looking back at him. "Mhm! Of course!" I answer, positioning myself in the right pose, my champagne in one hand, clutch hanging by my side in the other one. I smile, flashing my bright white teeth beneath my big lips. He snap, snap, snaps away, the camera clicking, gathering a few pictures. I change poses for a few of them, hand on hip, turned to the side slightly, even one over the shoulder just to show off my tanned and toned back in this hot, over the top dress.
"Perfect!" He says, admiring them on his Canon.
"Mind if I take a peek?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Don't mind at all," He says as I walk towards him, leaning in close so I can see the photos. They are perfect. He's right. Not to be vain, but I looked pretty hot.
"You look great," He smiles. "So, how do you know the birthday girl?"
"Thanks," I say, looking at him. "Oh, I work with her… we're friends," I smile.
"Oh, so you're an Angel?" He asks.
I blush, "No, well… not yet… that's the goal though!" I chuckle. "So… mind if I ask what the photo's for?"
"I'm an intern at The New York Times. They asked me to cover this party since this is probably going to be a pretty big one," He grins.
Big one. I smirk. "Cool," I say, just as I spot Evie. "Well, I better go wish the birthday girl happy birthday!"
"You probably should," He nods. "See you around?"
I bite my lip, "Yeah, see you around," I wink, turning to where Evie was. She was weaving through the people, stopping to say hi and shaking hands with people every once and awhile.
"Evie!" I smile as she turns her head, catching my eye.
"Athena!" She exclaims as I walk up to her. "Thank you so much for coming!"
"Are you kidding? I wouldn't miss it for the world! Happy birthday, angel!" I grin.
"Awh, thank you!" She says just as Lo comes along, gesturing for Evie to come with. "I'll see you later!" She smiles.
"See you later!" I call.
After finishing off my champagne, I head to the bar. I'm not going crazy tonight. I am not going crazy tonight. I tell myself this, repeating the mantra whilst ordering a simple martini.
"Athena!" Naomi's voice calls and I smile at her.
"Hey!" I say, turning to see that she's waiting for a drink too.
"What're you drinking?" She asks as the bartender slides the thin glass over to me, it gliding smoothly on the nice countertop. "Martini," I shrug. "You?"
She giggles. "Vodka and Coke," She smiles, sipping it through the twisted, red, bendy straw.
"Good choice," I trill, sipping mine and letting the cool alcohol run down my throat. "Cheers?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Of course!" She smiles, as we clink our glasses together before laughing lightly. I watch as Natasia walks by. She looks gorgeous, of course. "Hey!" I smile, waving her over.
"Hey," She says, glancing up and down, from the head of my ostrich feather dress down to my painted toenails. "Wow, you look great."
"So do you babe," I smile. "Care to have a drink with us?" I ask, twirling my now empty martini glass around before setting it on the bar and asking for another.
"Sure!" She smiles, coming over and ordering a drink.
"Cheers?" I question once again the second we all have our drinks.
"Cheers!" They echo as our glasses meet yet again, a small clink coming from the glass hitting one another.
"Mind if I snap a few?" The photographer from before has returned apparently, and now wants a photo with all three of us. Well, why not? But snap a few? I chuckle.
"Sure!" I smile as we set our drinks down, wrapping our arms around each other and smiling cheekily, winking, blowing a kiss or two, even some behind the shoulder shots.
He clicks away, the camera's lights flashing. I love my picture being taken. Call me a fame wh*re but being a newbie is hard, and if even just taking a few pictures of me at a party is what it takes to get me noticed, then so be it.
A few pictures later, he's clearly done. "I think we've got all we need," He smiles. "I'll see you around. Thank you girls!"
"You're welcome," I grin at him, looking at him. He's cute… really cute.
He walks away and the second he does, Naomi and Natasia are all over me. "He totally likes you!" Naomi gushes.
"He does not! I just met him, what? Two point five minutes ago?" I mention, sipping my martini.
"He has something for you… whether you've know him for two point five minutes or not," Natasia giggles.
"Well, I do have that affect on men," I joke. "Anyways, I'm done with this conversation. How about we mingle?"
The birthday party whizzes by and after some dancing, some drinking, and of course, a huge birthday cake with a big two four on it. It was pretty good too!
It comes to the end and I wave good-bye to Evie and Lo, thank them for having me and wave good-bye to the rest of the girls before getting into a cab.Once in the cab, I crash right into something, or someone and I look to see that that very person is the guy I happened to see at the party… the photographer.
"Oh, sorry," I say apologetically, hand on the door knob. "I can get out, if you want," I offer.
"No, no, it's fine," He waves it off. "We can share a ride."
"Okay," I blush, releasing my grip off the door handle.
"Where to?" The cab driver asks and I tell him my location, the same moment as the photographer tells his and we find it's exactly the same.
I look at him, "Wait… you live in my building?" I ask.
He nods, "I guess so. Small world, right?"
"Yeah, and you two just made my world a whole lot easier!" The driver chuckles as he merges into the traffic of Manhattan, swerving and weaving.
I giggle, "It's fate," I joke.
"Total fate," The photographer laughs. "I never caught your name by the way,"
"Athena Cavalcanti," I smile. "And you are?"
"Penn Romano," He smiles. "It's nice to meet you,"
"It's nice to meet you too," I grin,
And boy, it really is…
I'm starting to think, maybe it really is fate.
Sorry that I entered a boy a bit late. In the beginning I had no idea what kind of guy to do, etc. Can I please reserve Penn Badgley? :)
