  • Adelta Eero Aarnio Ball Chair
    hivemodern.com
Design Eero Aarnio, 1963. Fiberglass shell, upholstery. Made in Finland by Adelta. The Ball Chair was designed by using one of the most simple geometric forms: the ball. By lopping off one end and fixing it at one point Eero Aarnio comes to a remarkable result - a supremely unconventional chair. A Ball Chair is a 'room within a room' with a cozy and calm atmosphere, protected from outside noises it provides a private space for relaxing or a phone call. Spinning on its own axis the view to the outer world is variable for the user and offers a degree of privacy. The ball chair is something between a piece of furniture and a piece of architecture and at the same time embodies both the mobile and the established. 47" H | 39" d | 41" w.
  • Artifort Tulip Ottoman
    hivemodern.com
Design Pierre Paulin, 1965. Upholstery, polished swivel base, chrome. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. As if Pierre Paulin had premonitions of Flower Power, the simple Tulip spreads its half-open petals around the sitter, inviting and warming at the same time. The Tulip is stately with a high back, which is an eminently comfortable armchair. With its matching footstool, it makes a strong and yet exceptionally comfortable combination. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the designer for Artifort where he created a series of sculptural chairs with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris. He also designed home appliances. Restored to its place of honor - the Tulip chair has been reintroduced with its original cross-base. Having once fallen from favor due to the arrival of the swivelling disk base, it can now be admired in all its original glory. The metal-strip cross-base looks lighter and airier than the disk and gives the Tulip an elegant twist. Ottoman: 26.75" w | 18.5" d | 18" h.
  • Artifort Orange Slice Chair & Ottoman

Design Pierre Paulin, 1960. Beech shells, upholstery, steel. Made in Holland by Artifort. "A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful." -Pierre Paulin. Designed in 1960, the Orange Slice is a timeless icon that looks as fresh and inspired today as it did when it was first created. Anyone who sees several Slice chairs together cannot fail to be touched by the playfulness fo the composition. From different visual angles, the Orange Slice shows several stages of 'curl up'. In fact, the chair seems to change shape every time you look at it. Pierre Paulin studied stone carving and clay modeling at the Ecole Camondo in Paris in the early fifties where he began designing furniture for Thonet. • Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair in Milani Fabric
    dwr.com
Before the Swan Chair (1958), Arne Jacobsen’s architecture and designs were shaped by an assumption of’ natural ways of resisting. In other words, he could make them go only so far in becoming the structures he desired. With new technologies, however, the old rules no longer applied, and he was able to shape fluid curves and single-piece molded shells. The Swan Chair is now made from polyurethane foam, but at the time, Jacobsen used Styropore® to create its continuous shape. Designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, for which Jacobsen was the architect, the chair permitted guests to spin on its swivel base, thus becoming active participants in the busy hotel atmosphere. A single upholsterer hand-sews the fabric onto the frame of Swan. Original design and licensed manufacture by Republic of Fritz Hansen. Made in Poland.
