Now and then. Known for their eclectic mix of modern and vintage, TV's famed husband-and-wife design duo Robert and Cortney Novogratz have a style all their own. And as parents to the seven Novogratz kids ages 3 to 15, it's a style that's easy to live with. Created exclusively for CB2, the Stick Around Chair was inspired by the Novogratzes' own dining chairs, which are authentic vintage finds: "We wanted to design a chair that was a modern take on a familiar, vintage design and form that could go in any home. The neutral color palette we chose works with pretty much any style, from super traditional to super modern, and everything in between. Robert and I love color, but you also need great pieces that stand as the foundation for your color expression." With its graceful curves and cabriole legs, the Stick Around Chair nods to Queen Anne-style—but with a modern twist. Fresh white-on-white design highlights the pure form, framed in hi-gloss birch with a faux leather seat and back. Learn about Robert and Cortney Novogratz on our blog. • Josef Hoffmann Hoffmann Side Chair
    dwr.com
Josef Hoffmann is well known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs – several intended for cafés – that he designed early in the 20th century. The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement can be seen in his work, but Hoffmann also embraced the industrial age. Rather than rejecting traditional decoration, he succeeded in making it serve structural principles, which he believed should determine the forms of buildings, interiors and objects. Whether admiring one of his chairs or the Sanatorium Purkersdorf he designed in 1903, you can see Hoffmann’s emphasis on straight, unadorned lines, characteristics that are in keeping with the style of the Viennese Secession. The Hoffmann Side Chair (1925), designed in collaboration with Josef Frank, is made at the bentwood factory founded by Michael Thonet in 1861. Made in the Czech Republic.
  • Michael Thonet Era Chair with Cane Seat
    dwr.com
Defined by its dependable bentwood construction and simple, organic form, the graceful, lightweight and surprisingly strong Era Chair with Cane (1859) has been in continuous production for more than 150 years. By making the back of the chair and rear legs from a single piece of curved wood, designer Michael Thonet, who perfected the bentwood process for chair-making, eliminated the need for expensive and time-consuming hand-carved joints. The Era Chair with Cane is suitable for residential and commercial use and remains a staple in cafes and restaurants around the globe. As with any natural material, slight variations in the texture and color of the wood are to be expected and are not defects. Made in the Czech Republic.

  • Charles and Ray Eames Eames® Wire Chair with Seat Pad (DKR.5)
    dwr.com
After refining their molded plastic chairs, Charles and Ray Eames began experimenting with making a chair from welded wire. To succeed, the Eameses had to figure out how to create a design with the strength they needed while keeping manufacturing costs as low as possible. Ultimately, they decided on using lighter-gauge wire doubled over into a rim that sandwiches heavier inner wire to form their Eames Wire Chair (1951), which won them their first American mechanical design patent. Its organic shape and airy silhouette are complemented by what’s commonly referred to as an Eiffel base (because of its trademark shape). This is an authentic Eames product by Herman Miller. Commercial quality. Made in U.S.A. DKR.5 stands for dining height, wire shell, rod base, seat pad.

Introduced in 1994, the Globus Chair has already become a design classic, used in restaurants and public spaces around the world. Most recently, it was installed as the seating at Santiago Calatrava's new pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The backrest and seat are made from smooth, curving pieces of beech plywood or plastic, molded to provide secure support, while the waterfall seat edge allows for comfort over long periods. The gently curved elliptical hole in the back of the Globus serves multiple purposes beyond its unique design: It allows for additional ventilation and the alleviation of back pressure, and it can be used as a handle for easy maneuvering. Attachments on the seat bottom prevent damage during stacking and plastic glides protect floors. Choose the plastic Globus Chair with stainless frame for use outdoors. Contract quality. “I want to design furniture that grows up out of the floor,” said Verner Panton. “To turn the furniture into something organic. Which never has four legs.” Pushingto their limits was a passion of this Danish architect and designer, who always approached design challenges in unconventional ways. His cantilevered stacking chair (1960) was the first single-material and single-form chair to be made, and it’s been continually improved and updated by Vitra through three decades of development in plastics technology. As striking as a modern sculpture, the Panton Chair is crafted into a single piece of strong, flexible polypropylene that’s wonderfully durable and easy to clean. Suitable for residential and commercial use. Made in Italy.

  • Milo Baughman 1188 Chair in Leather
    dwr.com
The 1188 Chair (1968) was Milo Baughman’s favorite chair and the one with which he chose to furnish the home of business partner and friend Thayer Coggin. Given that the Coggin family could’ve had any dining chair in the company’s inventory, the 1188 is something special indeed. Baughman and Coggin met in 1953 and formed a powerful partnership that lasted for five decades. The North Carolina-based company is still the exclusive manufacturer of Baughman furniture to this day. The designer’s work was included in High Styles: Twentieth Century American Design at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1985. Baughman was inducted into the Furniture Design Hall of Fame in 1987. Made in U.S.A. Natural leather is prized for its unique markings. Scars, scrapes and wrinkles are not defects. For the Ivory/Bronze chair, the bronze finish is created by hand and is not uniform. This is intentional, and the marks of the craftsman are left on the chair to add warmth and character to each piece.
