Book, ladies, books. In this case, a dozen books you've read that will stick with you no matter what. Don't over think it; just pick the first 12 that come to mind, in no more than as many minutes. Then make the set.

What is this? Why another tag, of course, and I tag kitten, SweetFirefly, Sabaa, bewareofdogma and carolinarqt.

Here's my list:
The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas
A Pale View of Hills - Kazuo Ishiguro
Guns, Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond
The Sacred and Profane - Mircea Eliade
The Master and Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov
The Illiad and The Odyssey - Homer & translator (yep, that's technically two, but it's my list, and I can cheat if I want to :P)
Theogony - Hesiod & translator
Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu, allegedly & translator (but NOT the Stephen Mitchell translation, since it's way too Buddhist)
100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Ye Olde Ghost Story Anthology - more cheating, sort of; I own over 30 terror tale anthologies, and tend to think of them as one book in many volumes
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
The Magic Glove - don't know the author; the first book I remember, shaped like a black mitten and full of beautiful, Russian-style pictures of anthropomorphic animals who find a magic glove to bunk in for the winter

Over to you, ladies! :)
